Don't get fixated on supposed signs, the end times will come when it comes. And I don't know about Protestants, but as a Catholic there is no such thing as the rapture, the idea of avoiding suffering because of our Christian status is not in alignment with Christianity. Christ suffered on the cross and expects us to pick our own up as well and to assist our neighbors. Focus on repentance and living in alignment with God's will and plan for humanity.

Looks like the eclipse will go over two cities named Nineveh, not 7. But let's not let facts get in the way shale we? https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2024/04/05/april-8-eclipse-totality-path-nineveh/73215252007/

Thank you, Thomas. Based on your attached USA Today article, the correct number is 7. "Five others – in New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Kentucky – will see a partial eclipse." From the NASA chart, the partial eclipse will be over 85%. What this coincidence means, if anything, we leave it up to the reader.

also, NASA will launch three sounding rockets during the total solar eclipse to study how Earth’s upper atmosphere is affected when sunlight momentarily dims over a portion of the planet...the space agency’s project, named APEP ("Serpent Deity"), will investigate how that drop in sunlight and temperature affects Earth’s upper atmosphere...APEP, in ancient Egyptian mythology, is nemesis of the sun deity Ra...

Cool Fact: In 2045 a total solar eclipse will occur and peak almost directly over Cape Canaveral, just over six minutes in some places in Florida…

Get right with God: NOW. People focus on "the end is coming" but they have said that for thousands of years. Don't get right with God because this might be the end times, but because even if it isn't the end times, death could hit us at any moment. Think of all the strong, healthy, young people that drop dead of heart attacks.

Might there be important reasons behind Seth Gruber being less than welcome to speak at Westmont College, beyond his incendiary claims? What homework have you done? Did you impugn a fine Christian college without significant critical work? You can - and should, in my opinion - do better than that. Also, did you simply take Seth's claim of leading the 'fastest growing right to life' group at face value, or did you test this rather self-serving claim? How about National Right To Life? Others?

Enjoyed your article…Thank You…interesting that the 2017 eclipse coincided with the peace & prosperity during Trump’s first year in office…FYI, several lunar eclipses also coincided with “mile markers” of Trump’s birthday & key dates during his presidency…Universe guides & provides…

Trump certainly flip flops his positions on issues which is frightening. It’s challenging to know what he thinks, in comparison to what he thinks he needs to think to gain political favor. What we know is he is not a religious Patriot. Flattery is essential to be heard; Christians essential to win 2024. Can we trust him to secure our nation? close the border? deport migrants here unlawfully? Stop spending?

What an amazing piece, Mary . Thanks for including the links. What an education.

"Other possible signs of the end times would include a rebuilding of a Jewish temple in Jerusalem, increased hostility toward Israel, and advances toward a one-world government. The most prominent sign of the end times, however, is the nation of Israel itself. In 1948, Israel was recognized as a sovereign state, essentially for the first time since 605 BC, when the Babylonians took control of Judah. God promised Abraham that his posterity would have Canaan as “an everlasting possession” (Genesis 17:8), and Ezekiel prophesied a physical and spiritual resuscitation of Israel (Ezekiel 37). Having Israel as a nation in its own land is important in light of end-times prophecy because of Israel’s prominence in eschatology (Daniel 10:14; 11:41; Revelation 11:8).

With these signs in mind, we can be wise and discerning in regard to the expectation of the end times. We should not, however, interpret any of these singular events as a clear indication of the soon arrival of the end times. God has given us enough information that we can be prepared, and that is what we are called to be as our hearts cry out, “Come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20)."

When I was a kid I asked my mother if I could go out and watch the eclipse. She said - "Ok, but don't get too close" Spoken like a true mom!

isn’t the sign if Jonah this, “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth”?

A very side note is celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Oakland's Fairyland children's amusement park at Lake Merritt, one of the alleged inspirations for Walt Disney's later Disneyland.

A major highlight of any Oakland Fairyland trip was to descend into the belly of Willie the Whale. At the bottom of the steep ramp into his belly, we would find an aquarium full of colorful fish.

The adventure of Jonah and the Whale was one of many a beloved Bible stories taught in our Protestant Sunday Schools at that time. Getting to act out being swallowed into Willie's belly was a special treat. We knew we would come back up safe and sound, no matter how steep the descent. Mixing Bible stories with a public amusement park would give one pause today, but it was the seamless fabric of our lives back in California, in Oakland, in the 1950's.

Entering the whale's belly at Oakland's Fairyland was very, very steep and a bit scary for me when I was not that old; treat? NO, impressive , YES.

Thanks Mary for a great piece linking subjects together nicely.
