“Salud” is translated as “ health”

This is the definition of irony, as our congressman is in lockstep with his Democrat party- their policies create societal disease and death. I would love to see him replaced by Thomas Cole, and would like to see a debate on the issues. We are about to witness the spectacle of the DNC convention. Pay attention to their policies- they are not healthy for individuals, families, the nation, or the world.

I agree, seems to me that Salud is on the take (maybe compromised?). He’s definitely part of the go-along-to-get-along Congressional crowd (devolved into a fun high school scene for Uniparty psychopaths/sociopaths). Notice that the Ds & their support media are not hyping the DNC convention. The counter-protesters are forming & they will be in for a hard slog, especially if they move to change candidates again. Interesting that they are have installed state of the art high-speed camera systems. Expect to see false flags and chicanery. Looking like it will be quite the show.

Sightings of SB Republicans is about as rare as sightings of the California Condor. This needs to change. We as conservatives need to be out in the open in public spaces, stating our case and sounding the alarm about the pending financial doom due to decades of mismanagement and plain old fashion incompetence and fraud which has been perpetrated by the Democratic machine on the taxpayers of SB County.

Hey Carbajal, “Come out, come out, where ever you are!”

Don’t expect any help from the local “media” as they are part of the problem, carrying the water for the left establishment. Giving cover, not asking the tough questions as to why our academic institutions are crumbling and where did the money go? How is it maintenance is deferred, resulting in needed massive repairs? Clearly, there needs to be forensic audits conducted and a Grand Jury needs to be asking some tough questions!

Republicans have been put in a box and the box is labeled racist, right wing, islamophobic, mysagonistic, uneducated, gun-totin bible thumpin deplorable fools. The Democrat box is labeled progressive, inclusive, compassionate, educated, loveable and good. Democrats put a lot of stock in labels and identity. Salud does not need to debate because he is a big D. I agree with LT that Republicans need to break out of the box by having more contact with the public. We can win on the issues. We need to become humans with ideas to make our community and the country a better place. The Current is the best thing for our community. How can The Current extend reach? The issue is the media and academia typically broadcast these ready pejorative labels on anyone who threatens their one party partisan dominance.

We already have seen this negative labeling repeated by the several Democrat-supporting posters who come here to enlighten us about our perverse conservative human failings, and our irredeemably flawed conservative candidate choices.

However, so far after a few frontal attacks of suspiciously similar nature, they leave perplexed finding we are not who they claimed us to be. Just fighting these partisan misperceptions with an even hand is a step in the right direction, in this very closed media and mono-culture company town.

When government is the largest local employer, it is a given this will be a Democrat-voting town who will be equally rabid against any and all opposition to their one party dominance. Which is too bad since most local elected positions are intentionally non-partisan, and for good reason.

Will there be a growing sense of safety in numbers as this forum also continues to grow? I hope so.

The problem is, whenever Democrats find themselves in a conversation they will lie. And they will lie and lie and lie again until they have convinced themselves it's the truth. I was on Instagram yesterday and this person who was clearly a Democrat, was arguing that Democrats are NOT interested in mandatory gun buyback programs. One quick Google search and I found link after link after link that of course they are. In fact, a poll done a few years ago noted that 70% of Democrats are in favor of mandatory buyback programs! This person never responded, they just prefer to spew their hatred, misinformation, and flat out BS just in case it helps to sway someone in their direction. So they don't care about spreading misinformation. They don't care about the truth. They will lie repeatedly until they get their way. But of course I do agree with you that in order to combat these liars, we've got to fill the void with the truth and you make several common sense appeals! It's just hard to fight when somebody refuses to tell the truth and denies absolutely everything. Every time you state a fact they want a citation. Then you provide the citation and then what? Silence. They never respond. The truth apparently bores them.

Other than being former BOS, Naomi Schwartz’s lap dog, what has Carbajal ever accomplished? Never ran a business, never worked a non-government job, never had to make a payroll or balance a budget. Why is he our Congressman? This is nothing personal, I’ve met him and he seemed like a nice enough guy.

But I would ask him WHY are prices so high and working families are having such a hard time even surviving? WHY is our foreign policy in shambles and the US has become the laughing stock of the world?

WHY is our border wide open, allowing criminals to enter while not being able to care for our own citizens? WHY has the Democratic Party allowed radicals to take over THEIR platform espousing Jew hatred and anti American violence?

WHY ask WHY?

Thank you, Bonnie. We are so lucky here to have people like you and Thomas Cole. I will be calling that number.

My own thinking is: if we're ever going to get rid of the Democratic Party tyranny and destruction in Santa Barbara, people fighting it are going to have to stop defining themselves as “Conservatives.” It's a bad word here. “Liberal” is what most people think of as being best about CA.

I grew up in California when being a “Liberal” meant three very important things: you believed in free speech, you were against America entering into wars like Vietnam, and you were an environmentalist. At that time being a “Conservative” meant you thought Russians were evil propagandists and needed to be bombed out of existence, literary books with sex in them should be banned, and the Grand Canyon should be used as a dam.

I was a liberal. I'm still a liberal. Which is why I left the Democratic Party and voted for Trump. What has changed isn't me, it's that the Democratic Party is now anything but liberal. They believe in organized media propaganda, they are against localist, small-is-beautiful environmentalism and want it controlled by the state, they think Russia is evil and should be bombed out of existence, and the only literary sex any library should allow is Drag Queen Story Hour. And they've co-opted the word “Liberal” so anyone who disagrees with them is a “Conservative” and worse - they're a bigoted, QAnon, racist, far-right Flat Earth believer.

And it's worked. Many people here just shut down the moment they look up something on Wikipedia and it tells them it's “right wing.” Or even “conservative.” They actually believe they shouldn't even listen or read it. They think Kamala is right in not talking to journalists who have been labelled “right wing” - and that includes journalists like Glenn Greenwald who is anything but right wing, but who is appalled with how the Democratic Party is behaving. So this is an extremely effective totalitarian strategy.

I think the reason Carpinteria succeeded was because the fight against Das wasn't Conservatives against Liberals. It was a fight for saving the community and that brought everyone together. I think we need to focus this fight for Santa Barbara on that. The words “Conservative” and “Liberal” have too much power over voters and they have nothing really to do with what's at stake. And when people call you far-right just because you disagree with them, you need to laugh at them. Like this guy here yesterday who said I was obviously a far-right QAnon believer - I just said, yeah and you have no idea how much my Tin Foil Hat cost. They are absurd. Not us. And we can take Santa Barbara back.

Polly, you are right on. I have often thought that the labels "liberal" and "conservative" were totally misused. in the politics of today. I do consider myself politically "conservative" in that I think we have, and have been for years, given our government more and more power and it is corrupting the very system that kept us relatively free in this country. We need to "conserve" our existing freedoms before it is too late. Those who are referred to as "liberals" are for more and more laws, taxes, and more restrictions on the American citizenry usually in the guise of either helping the "poor" or the "children". As someone pointed out in another Current (sorry, I forgot who) we have far too many government employees who want and need to keep the gravy train moving along. I am not sure how to rename or relabel the current monikers. I know of quite a number of people who have left the Democrat party and maybe it's just a matter of time before more and more people see the writing on the wall. Fingers crossed.

Hi Monica - I love how you put that “We need to conserve our existing freedoms before it is too late.” Yes! Besides growing up in Santa Barbara and having returned here, I lived in Greenwich Village, NYC, for years. Talk about people who don't like the word “conservative”! And it's how the Democratic Party has taken them over - New Yorkers! So many people I know there who once were free-spirited thinkers have become these grotesque propagandists for the Democratic Party. It's heartbreaking.

"Weeks ago, at open public comment, about four or five people from Santa Barbara informed our City Council about Sex Trafficking happening right here in Santa Barbara."

Sex Trafficking in US and ESPECIALLY IN CA has Greatly Increased >>>

"In California, the percentage of human trafficking cases involving sex trafficking increased from 87% to 89% between 2015 and 2021, which is higher than the national average of 85% to 88%. In 2021, California had the most reported human trafficking cases in the country, with 5,257 cases out of 51,073 reported nationally"

The very first thing I would ask Former Marine Salud Carbajal in a debate .... is the SB County Concealing Sex Trafficking and is it actually facilitating Sex Trafficking????

The answer is YES. An exactly WHO IS INVOLVED?????

so the other man good looking Hispanic guy starts talking to me.. telling me he runs the boys and girls club on the Westside…

Then I say to the ring guy I like your ring what is that on it? He says it’s a Baphomet and we worship Satan…

So I look at his friend and ask or say “ you run the boys and girls club on the Westside, and you worship Satan ? He said yes..

so I got up and literally left the restaurant…

I didn’t know what to do so I called the police lol and told them what this guy said to me..,

On my post on Sexual Abuse in California and Santa Barbara I received 11 Likes so I will reply.

I stated that Sexual Trafficking and Sexual Abuse and the concealment of same is "COMMON" in California, so "COMMON" in fact that California who was "PRESURRED" by another Agency passsed the new Sexual Abuse "Accountabilty Act" and I quote >>>

"California's Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act, also known as Assembly Bill 2777 (AB 2777), went into effect on January 1, 2023. The act allows adult survivors of sexual assault to file civil claims for damages against entities that are liable for their abuse or covered up the assault. The act applies to crimes that occurred after January 1, 2009, and survivors have until December 31, 2026 to file their claims."

Ok so is Sexual Abuse being Concealed here in Santa Barbara?

Last election in 2020, some group organized a Car Rally for Trump. We decided to go simply because we wanted to stand up for what we thought would be a small token gesture. . Plus we already had purchased our Californians for Trump flag which we did display. And yes, our Trump yard sign did get immediately slapped with a large pre-printed RACIST sticker the very first evening it was out. Someone was lying in wait for us.

However, to our great surprise when we showed up at the car rally meeting spot, there were well over a hundred cars, or more?, all festooned with Trump logo and many younger persons organizing the event. Still don't know who organized this event, but bravo.

We slowly made our way through town from Upper State Street, down to the beach with great fun. We triggered two reactions: the predictable TDS crowd, literally with veins bulging, stood in the street, flipped us off and screamed obscenities at us. We finally came to call it the Great Audubon Bird Count. We smiled and laughed back at them. Gave them an extra wave of our Trump flag.

But the real surprise was finding how many more, lots more, along the way that gave us enthusiastic thumbs up and cheered. Who knew they even existed in this town. Or were they just visiting Santa Barbara on a beautiful weekend.

If we had not taken that first step to stand up and be counted, we never would have understood that yes, Virginia, there are Trump supporters in this town. And happy to have the chance to show their support, even in the face of the profanity-riddled opposition.

BRAVO!!! It is so sad that we fear demonstrating who we support. But that is what the Democrats rely on. They call us fearmongerers, and yet it's their party that destroys property and spews vulgarity when they come upon someone who disagrees. What happened to the "I" in DEI? If they are the party of inclusion, I guess they really mean inclusion except those who disagree. But isn't that the very definition of EXclusion? I just don't know how we sit back and take it. I'm spending time with my family out of state. Guess what they have flowing gloriously in the front yard? Two American flags, a Trump flag, and a Trump Vance yard sign. No racist stickers, no flattened tires, no key scratches on our cars, and we do not have red paint on the house. Why is it that we don't have a voice in Santa Barbara. Why has our government divided us with such hatred? It is so sad to see and I continue to wonder what our children and grandchildren will think of how we responded as a society many years from now.

Good morning,

I’m a regular walker on State Street, and you’re right—people avoid walking on the street mainly because of the electric bikes speeding silently through. It’s very dangerous, and I’ve already seen these bikes nearly hitting people. Next time you walk there, just notice how much of the street is actually for pedestrians and how much is taken over by these electric bikes.

Taking this opportunity, I want to share that I’ve lived in SB for 16 years, and it’s sad to see what the Council has done in recent years. The city has become very dirty, with trash piling up around trees for weeks or even months. I’ve always thought of our city as a prime destination for visitors, but that seems to be changing. I wouldn’t recommend anyone visit a city as dirty as SB is now.

There are only 10 blocks that should be like a postcard—with flowers, cleanliness, and prioritizing pedestrians, not motorcycles speeding by.

Denice Spangler Adams and now Bonnie Donovan have given the Santa Barbara Current community the opportunity to go from rhetoric to action. If you are up for it and if you want to oppose Measure P.

There is so much intellectual energy and local knowledge in this group, that a campaign to oppose life-long taxing extensions slipped in on a misleading headline of no increase in the tax rates to hide the fact that in voting "Yes" you would be agreeing almost half a Billion dollars in additional taxes until 2070. That is the real intent. Furthermore, we don't really know how the money would be used.

Are we not entitled to challenge this kind of tax increase without an examination of the true facts? As a starter, why did two of the most knowledgeable people out of seven vote "No" on Measure P? Think of it this way, 28.6% of the Board voted "No".

SBCC has a very large Campus the overall numbers of students who attend SBCC has declined over the years and now, a significant number who are enrolled, study remotely.

Then, there is the mix of students. How many are actually from Santa Barbara? How many are from other counties in California? How many are from other states in the USA? How many are from overseas?

SBCC was established in 1909 by the Santa Barbara School District. It was originally sited on a site downtown and started out with the title, Santa Barbara Junior College. In 1959, the Santa Barbara Board of education formally changed the name to Santa Barbara City College. And the Campus was moved from downtown to the 74-acre site it now has on the Mesa.

So, it appears that SBCC was, as part of the Santa Barbara School System, its original purpose was for the further education students graduating from Santa Barbara County High Schools and presumably, was financially supported by the same tax regime as the rest of the Santa Barbara School district. How did all that change, now that SBCC is regarded as an international city college for students from all over the world.

Why with a declined number of students actually attending the campus, why does SBCC need a 74-acre campus? Especially as the college administration is renting out classrooms to other institutions at below market rates for the property.

This is not a party-political matter. it is a civic matter and should be debated that way.

Just a little additional information.

Did you know that a decade ago the student body in SBCC was 19,331. Now it is 12,675 a loss of 6,656 about one third down. Not exactly a success story. But the same 75 Acre Campus to maintain.

Did you know that of the 12,675 total student body, 4,199 are enrolled in exclusively on-line courses? Did you know that 4,900 of the remaining students are taking some on-line courses? Yet the same 75-acre campus is there to be maintained, repaired and replaced.

Oh, by the way the adopted budget adopted by SBCC for 2023-24 was $224,347,416.

So, one must wonder that if sometimes there are only 3,576 students on Campus, is it time to re-purpose the 75-acre campus and and move SBCC to smaller quarters.

Are you willing to actively oppose Measure P. now?

Carbajal doesn't debate for the same reason Trump wouldn't debate his Republican opponents in the primaries.

Sorry Lou, I don't think so. Salud like Das like Hart, like Limon, like Gutierrez etc etc, backed by your dem's. Do as we tell you and you will get the seat....

As long as the Dem endorsement works, these candidates are going to do what they are told. The only way to change this is for Republicans to begin winning some of these races. Unfortunately, Cole has zero chance of beating Carbajal. Like Trump in the primaries, Carbajal doesn't need to debate since he is easily beating Cole.

Bonnie, I am voting for Cole. Is there anything I said that gave you the idea I am voting for Carbajal?

No, I am just being realistic. The way to rebuild the party to make it a viable political alternative in SB is not to pretend that the path we are on is working. One major problem all Republican candidates have locally is being tied to Trump whether you support him or not. At least 60% of voters in city of SB hate him and will not vote for you if they think you support him. The liberal media will immediately brand you a right wing fanatic if you don't denounce Trump. And like Cole, I will be voting for Trump although I preferred some of the other Republicans in the primaries.

Bonnie, thanks once again for the great articles and for putting in the phone numbers to call to get some debates going. I guess it's time to put the pressure on.

I read Republican candidate Thomas Cole's biography and did not see any mention of his military service. As a veteran myself, I believe we need more veterans in Congress. The G.O.P. leadership is top heavy with candidates who malign and discredit veterans, their service and sacrifice. Trump's recent remarks concerning Medal of Honor recipients were more horrific and disgusting then his previous insults to wounded and dead American service personnel. I would not be interested in sending another "armchair patriot" to the Halls of Congress. His opponent, an immigrant, served his adopted country honorably. Historically, and to their credit, immigrants serve in disproportionate numbers in our Nation's armed forces. "Selfless service" will always trump "selfish service." I will be voting for the veteran.

I must say, Stephen, that I have a different take. We are watching two different movies. I watched the Trump speech and the follow up question & answer period with the MSM. From that, I don't believe that Trump was denigrating veterans, instead he's paying a kind tribute to a woman Medal of Freedom recipient who was in his presence. I think that he was making the point that she had a good wholesome life (of good health & physical well being) to enjoy and bask in the honor — rather than being a broken or fallen soldier who had received the Medal of Honor. In a left-handed way, he was reminding us of those brave soldiers & their great sacrifices. Overall, he was comparing/contrasting to two types of medal recipients. As a veteran (USAF 74-78, Army National Guard 84-85, Digital Army 17-24), I was not offended in the least bit. I'm also perplexed how any veteran could vote for Tim Walz & his stolen valor. Why would anyone vote to put a thief in office? Especially when our country is near collapse, we are circling the drain. If the socialist/Marxist/communist retain power, it will be the end of the USA that we served & loved. Best.

Glad you did your research to make your choice! As a veteran supporter, myself, can you tell me something I am not 100% sure of? What does it mean to be a Military Reserve? Is that when you do weekends only? My son had a friend who would go down south one weekend a month for reserves. If you don't know no problem I will research it soon.

Typically, reservists and national guard drill one weekend a month with two-weeks away for training a year, unless their unit is "called up" by the President for an active duty extended deployment. The bulk of the military service personnel serving in our "wars" since Vietnam (and the end of the draft) have been Reservists and National Guards. Service in the National Guard can also result in "call ups" by the governor of their state to fight forest fires, assist flood victims, protect property during civil unrest or after a severe earthquake, tornado, or hurricane. If you do this for 20 or more years, you can "retire," but will not receive a retirement check until your 60th birthday.

Thank you!!!!

How many years did Salud enlist in the Reserves?

PS, my son was on active-duty Air Force, not Reservists or National Guard after 9/11 when he went. Also, regarding the border. Who would have to call in the National Guard or Reservists for its protection? The Governor of each border state or the President?

From Carbajal's website: "Salud served eight years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, including active duty service during the Gulf War in 1992"

To all the Marine vets out there reading this, from this old Army vet, "Semper Fi! And thank you for your service!"
