Democrats are now focusing on "Trump is Mean". One sees this now playing out at many levels, primarily from the utterings of both Kamala Harris and Michelle Obama.

From the Santa Barbara Street religious non-profit Unitarian Society's Wayside Pulpit announcing to passing cars: "Choose those who lift you up. Michelle Obama" to Kamala Harris reported today in the WSJ: "What kind of country do we want to live in? Do we want to live in a country of freedom, compassion, and rule of law, or in a country of chaos, fear and hate?"

Democrats sum and substance remains OrangemanBad and you are a bad person if you support him. They have not moved iota beyond that same 2020 message. Witness Democrats yet again claiming they are the aspirational party of decency, but in fact they did give us Joe Biden and his curiously mean-spirited Return to Decency.

Welcome to another dissonant Election Year, 2024, just like Democrats exploited fear, uncertainty and death threats during their Covid Election Year 2020. But that is mean of me to even mention this, making their case for them. Onwards and upwards folks, we have a lot of good to look forward to Making America Great Again. And not a moment too soon. Offense remains the best defense.

We (heart) conservatism because it is best for all of America. Loving what makes America great is our best gift: limited government; rule of law; protection of private property; free and competitive markets.

Unitarian society? Religious?

This is what I found from there website, it's so far removed from Christian beliefs it's actually disgusting

Although our historical roots are in the Christian and Jewish traditions, we have become a faith that welcomes insights from many sources, including world religions and philosophies as well as the arts and sciences.

Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion — that is, a religion that keeps an open mind to the religious questions people have struggled with in all times and places.

We believe that personal experience, (the errors of modernism and relativism are glowing here) conscience, and reason should be the final authorities in religion, and that in the end, religious authority is not found in a book or person, but within ourselves.

After the four years of Obama-driven, deep state sabotage thrown at POTUS Donald Trump, even before Trump was elected in 2016, it is Trump who deserves finally getting a real first term. He has more than earned it, and captured the will of America's long-suffering and silenced majority. America cannot survive a fourth term of Barack Obama.

Thank you, Brian. I get why the elites applaud the destruction of America - because it pays very nicely for their own perfect bubble of luxury. I get why so much of the media has been happy to lie to their readers and viewers. They don't make anywhere near the elite kind of money off it, but they can still sort of keep their Hamptons-on-the-weekend lifestyle. They're getting paid. But these Democrat friends that you and TheotokosAppreciator talk about - the ones who still believe despite eight years of being abusively lied to by their political party? Who still foam at the mouth with rage at Trump and anyone who doesn't go along with every single Democratic lie - and who have nothing to gain from it? What is wrong with them? For eight years I've said that if my longtime friends, the ones who called me a fascist and refused to talk to me simply because I don't hate Trump, if they were to call me up and apologize I'd be happy to forgive and forget. They wouldn't even have to explain why they went crazy like that. But not now. I will never forgive these people for ruining normal civil life. Life is full of enough tragedy. They have made every day more miserable than it ever needed to be.

In a democracy we are at the whims of these type of people, as our society becomes increasingly more secular and rejects traditional values it will only get worse. This is the tyranny of the majority people love to overlook in their support for democracy. Such is life where rather than caring for absolute truths, people care only for how something makes them feel or if it isn't inconvenient without regard for any moral implications or consequences.

This booklet was of particular interest because it included a brief biographical sketch which described the future President as having been born in Kenya:

When the "Birthers" started up with the theory that Obama wasn't able to run for president because his father wasn't American and Obama was (allegedly) born outside the U.S. I had to re-check to make sure that what I'd read 35 years earlier had been correctly remembered by me.

Since nobody has even suggested his mother wasn't American, it appears that by birthright, Obama was eligible to run.

Clearly, he knows of Mr. Biden’s mental status and has known for years and said nothing. He and the rest of the left wing media perpetrated this fraud on the American people.

Stephanopoulos had done this before. During the Clinton administration, he purportedly went after women accusing the former president of sexual misconduct. So much for “me too!”

Moreover, Stephanopoulos is a fraud and liar and owes ABC News, their shareholders and employees an explanation. After which he should be fired.

We need to come to a reckoning in this country after Trump takes back the White House. There needs to be accountability with those involved in propping up a mentally impaired, elderly patient for the last 4 years.

The reality is the Deep State DOES exist and the Dems just proved it. They thought they could get away with it, by installing Biden and then running our country by committee.

It’s a long term plan where the Uniparty has dominated for decades. When you look back at elections you might think there’s been back & forth between R & Ds. Not so, the elections are appointments. The Uniparty appoints a D or an R to keep the people happy and to make it appear elections were not rigged.

In our own town elected officials have switched parties for appearances, rented houses in districts they never lived so they could run for that office, had their nephews appointed to city government, outspent outsiders by over $100,000, ballot counts not matching up, etc..,

The corruption and manipulation of the people goes from our own back yard all the way up to the top.

Only disrupters have shown some light, Raegan being one. And they tried to kill him.

Trump is another, they filed impeachment on him the day after he was sworn in.

The organized crime syndicate does not want the people to know they are being manipulated.

Biden being appointed as the Dem nominee for presidency is an obvious, in your face, example given his mental illness.

The problem is the people will forget, they are complacent. Just as the Jews were complacent in Egypt. They had to be shaken up to realize they were slaves. Even later they still wanted to go back to the abusive relationship they had because facing the unknown was scary to them. They wanted to go back to Egypt similar to the battered spouse who never leaves the abusive relationship.

Two Democratic congressmen filed the first article of impeachment against Trump back in July 2017 months after Trump was inaugurated. Reps. Brad Sherman of California and Al Green of Texas filed an article charging Trump obstructed justice after Trump fired James Comey. Apparently they didn’t like the bought & paid for FBI director being fired.

When Democrats won a majority in the House after the 2018 elections, impeachment talk grew louder and more, well, colorful. Sherman and Green reintroduced their article of impeachment on Jan. 3, and that same day, freshman Democrat Rashida Tlaib, at a MoveOn reception on Capitol Hill, proclaimed Democrats would "impeach the motherf*****."

I do believe it is important to hear different points of view for sure. However, it would be helpful to have thoughtful discussions rather than constantly be exposed to wild unsubstantiated claims.

You caught me with your story as I have a dog and can relate to the intro in your story. Your purpose, however was to present your real thoughts on politics as you see them. My fault for sure. I had pretty much determined that the Santa Barbara Current is not a serious publication. Ok, my bad.

But I cannot just leave without making a comment on the term anchor baby and how that is being used against Kamala. Brings back the Trump claim that Obama was not a Citizen. Remember that?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Status as a natural-born citizen of the United States is one of the eligibility requirements established in the United States Constitution for holding the office of president or vice president. This requirement was intended to protect the nation from foreign influence.[1]

The U.S. Constitution uses but does not define the phrase "natural born Citizen" and various opinions have been offered over time regarding its exact meaning. The consensus of early 21st-century constitutional and legal scholars, together with relevant case law, is that natural-born citizens include, subject to exceptions, those born in the United States. As to those born elsewhere who meet the legal requirements for birthright citizenship, the consensus emerging as of 2016 was that they also are natural-born citizens.[2][3][4]

The first nine presidents and the 12th president, Zachary Taylor, were all citizens at the adoption of the constitution in 1789, with all being born within the territory held by the United States and recognized in the Treaty of Paris. All presidents who have served since were born in the United States. Of the 45[a] individuals who became president, there have been eight that had at least one parent who was not born on U.S. soil.[5][6][7]

The natural-born-citizen clause has been mentioned in passing in several decisions of the United States Supreme Court, and by some lower courts that have addressed eligibility challenges, but the Supreme Court has never directly addressed the question of a specific presidential or vice-presidential candidate's eligibility as a natural-born citizen. Many eligibility lawsuits from the 2008, 2012, and 2016 election cycles were dismissed in lower courts due to the challengers' difficulty in showing that they had standing to raise legal objections. Additionally, some experts have suggested that the precise meaning of the natural-born-citizen clause may never be decided by the courts because, in the end, presidential eligibility may be determined to be a non-justiciable political question that can be decided only by Congress rather than by the judicial branch of government.[8][9]

Stop characterizing groups or ideologies as "far right" if you don't know what that even refers to. It's like when secular liberals call American Christians "evangelicals" or "fundamentalists" even though they both have distinct meaning, the former referring to a particular protestant group and the latter referring to those who interpret scripture literally (but are also protestant and could be involved in various other faith groups).

I'm a Catholic Monarchist, a Carlist, and what I would consider to be far right in America (because the term far right is relativistic and will change based off of whatever is considered mainstream), would refer to groups/ideologies rooted in natives, and nationalists beliefs. They prioritize a homogenous population as opposed to focusing on a moral society, and often label "others" as enemies, that will destabilize a country. They might use Christian rhetoric or symbols, but ultimately not promote authentic Christian values; for examlle they might try to paint themselves as Christians because of their ancestors (assuming they don't mbrace paganism) but sometimes support abortion for non white populations because for them, the ends justify the means. These people (mostly young men) might call themselves "race realists" emphasizing a distinction between different racial groups and cite how 'diversity' is a weakness, but beyond that they often posses anti-Christian sentiments fostered around hatred of different racial groups n contrast to the Catholic Church which preaches about a universal brotherhood to which all men belong; they might embrace eugenics, scientific racism, social darwinism, and other anti Christian values opposed to charity and brotherly love.

As for J. Livingstons response, I don't know anything about it, but that is a rather mainstream sentiment I've seen expressed online. I don't need such rhetoric to justify my opposition to Obama, he doesn't alight with my Catholic faith nor does he promote Christian values in his policies, that's all I need without resorting to extravagant claims (be they true or false).

I appreciate your a firm of Catholic. Catholics are a denomination of. Christianity, followers of Jesus. But you are not Christian, you follow another firm that was not from the direct teachings of Jesus.

With that said the Old Testament, tora, Quora , has many areas of conflict with Christianity.

As Mormon, Orthodox, etc, Catholism is not Christianity.

Reality is Jesus did not want his oriole to conform to man’s word or man’s teachings. Jesus wanted us to love on all brothers and believe and out all faith into God.

No the Catholic Church is the original and True Church. The Church has maintained apostolic succession like the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox, and Assyrian Church of the East. We have valid sacraments, the Catholic Magisterium has preserved and protected scripture from protestant abuses, where each is free to interpret as he wishes (relativism), the Church has consistently fought against heresies and it's odd that you reject the Catholic Church and it's ecclesiology, yet you embrace the Chrstology the Church has uncovered throughout history. You take the fact that God is a Triune God, that Christ has two natures (A human and divine nature), that he is Consubstantial with the Father, etc for granted. Catholic teachings are those of Christ, it was not the protestants who defined orthodoxy, nor protestants who defended the Early Church against heresies, nor was it people without authority who maintained the True Faith (it was they who corrupted and perverted it) and led people astray, by deviating from what the Apostles taught them.

Christ established a Church, he appointed shepherds to guide his flocks, St. Paul explicitly says to a Christian community in the New Testament to listen to and follows the Gospel he as an apostle (an authority) has taught them, rejecting what others say. It is not just "the word of man", Christ explicity gave Peter the authority to bind and loose, to accept and deny particular teachings.

Expand full comment
Emmett's avatar

Agree to disagree. Christianity is derived directly from Christ who died on the cross. Catholics, Mormons, masons, Muslim all came later and differ from Christ’s teachings and appointments.

That is the point 8 make about churches. They are man’s version of what man thinks is right. Which again opens us up to debate without judgement as Jesus taught us, it is not our place to judge.

Old Testament contradicts New Testament. For example Sabath, Old Testament says stone a man for gathering sticks. Jesus taught us it is ok to heal and help the lost on Sabath. God told us th Sabath was holy to us, for us.

So who is correct? If you resound to this post on the Sabath should we stone you?

What Donald Trump has said through the years about where President Obama was born

By Chris Megerian

Sept. 16, 2016 1:20 PM PT

Donald Trump stood before television cameras on Friday and acknowledged a well-known fact that he had spent years denying — “President Barack Obama was born in the United States.”

It will be up to voters to determine whether that one sentence can erase years of Trump’s lying about whether Obama was born an American citizen, a long history of the Republican nominee attempting to undermine the legitimacy of the country’s first black president.

Here’s a look at Trump’s history of spreading falsehoods about Obama’s origins.

2008: Obama first faces questions about his birthplace

With rumors percolating about whether Obama was born in the U.S. and thus eligible to serve as president — a movement that would be dubbed birtherism — his campaign released a certification of live birth to prove he was born in Hawaii in 1961.

Spring 2011: Trump joins the movement

Three years later, Trump began pushing the issue in television interviews as he was considering whether to run for president in 2012.

“I have some real doubts,” Trump told the “Today” show. He claimed to have sent his own investigators to Hawaii, where Obama was born. "I have people that actually have been studying it and they cannot believe what they're finding."

Trump raised another falsehood in an interview with "Good Morning America," suggesting Obama was trying to conceal his religion by withholding his birth certificate. “Maybe it says he's a Muslim,” he said. Obama is Christian.

April 2011: Obama releases his long-form birth certificate

After weeks of Trump stirring the pot, the president called a White House news conference to release his long-form birth certificate. Obama called the issue a distraction pushed by “carnival barkers,” an implicit dig at Trump.

In response, Trump bragged about forcing Obama to release the document. He said he was "very proud” of himself and the birth certificate would have to be examined to ensure it was authentic.

2012: Trump presses birther issue during election

Trump’s campaign claimed in a statement on Thursday evening that he “brought closure” to the issue in 2011 when Obama released his birth certificate. But it’s clear that Trump didn’t consider the matter to be settled while Obama was running for reelection.

Trump even encouraged Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee, to press the issue during a debate. In his tweet, Trump cites a promotional booklet for Obama’s autobiography that inaccurately says he was born outside the U.S.

2013: Trump keeps the falsehood alive

Trump continued to spread conspiracy theories about the birth certificate the year after Obama was reelected, suggesting the death of a Hawaiian official was somehow related to a cover-up of the president’s true origins.

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/411247268763676673

In an interview with ABC News, Trump said the issue “made me very popular.” Pressed to acknowledge that Obama was born in the United States, he said, “I’m saying I don’t know. Nobody knows.”

2015: Trump launches presidential campaign

Trump announced in June 2015 that he would run for president as a Republican. A month later, he renewed his doubts about Obama’s birthplace. "I don't know. I really don't know," he said during a CNN interview.

Early 2016: Trump dodges birther questions

As he began to inch closer to the GOP nomination, Trump started to shy away from the issue.

“Who cares right now? We’re talking about something else, OK?” he told CNN. “I have my own theory on Obama. Someday I will write a book.”

Summer 2016: Trump’s campaign starts to say he’s changed his belief

In recent weeks, top members of Trump’s campaign began trying to walk back the nominee’s statements. His running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, said he knew Obama was born a citizen. His campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, said last week that Trump believes Obama was born in the U.S., and a statement from a senior communications aide late Thursday asserted the same.

But none of those comments came from Trump himself, who declined to answer questions on the topic as recently as Wednesday in an interview with the Washington Post.

September 2016: Trump acknowledges the truth about Obama

Five years after began doing television interviews about Obama’s birth certificate, Trump declared at his new hotel in Washington that the president was born in the United States. Trump did not apologize, nor did he explain why he changed his mind.

At the same time, he claimed it was Hillary Clinton, his Democratic opponent who ran against Obama in the 2008 primary, who originally raised questions about the president’s birth. There’s no evidence of that.

Obama never produced his birth certificate. That would have immediately removed all doubts.

Why is it ok to attack Trump but Trump is not allowed to question the other side?

They forced Trump to disclose his tax records, which he broke no laws. They forced Trump to reveal his phone conversation with Ukraine, which he broke no laws. Meanwhile Biden boasts he used financial aid to get the prosecutor investigating Burisma fired.

Just saying, when you run for public office, your life becomes public and you may need to share private information like a birth certificate. Which should not be a big deal, unless you are hiding something.

Obama did elease his long form birth certificate 4/27/11. This is just one of a zillions cites that covered it.

Years before that, in 2008, he release his "Certification of Live Birth" which too many people complained about.

The wing of the hospital listed didn’t exist when he was born.

Democrats virulently went after Trump's tax returns, when IRS claims they were totally protected. Yet, somehow they managed to get "leaked". Pays to have those on the inside of our government play only on their team.

And Trump did not violate tax laws written by politicians. So why is everyone upset about Trump not paying a lot in taxes? It’s the laws they voted for.

The House Ways and Means Committee voted to release six years of Trump's tax returns (2015-2020). I guess that's a leak.

Why do you think they were so relentless, and had to jump extraordinary hoops to break through IRS privacy restrictions? Do you suspect they knew via a prior "leak" and assumed these returns would embarrass Trump. Turned out to be a big nothing burger, since the man runs complex business transactions, much to the Democrats great gotcha disappointment. Yet, Democrats still think they can stonewall the full transcripts of Biden-Hur interviews? What is the common disclosure denominator here?

What happens if 44 was actively running a shadow command and control [shadow presidency] operation against the duly elected POTUS?

What former mid-senior admin officials would need to be involved?

What current mid-senior admin officials would need to be involved?

What key positions of power would be critical to the operation?

Our government is rotten to the core…

none of that is very convincing, but still, why would it be wrong for him (or anyone else) to question it, especially since we all saw the photoshop layered birth certificate. Include the timely death of the woman that worked in Hawaii that would have known the truth...the only person to drown in an water ditched aircraft. https://www.nbcnews.com/usnews/health-director-who-approved-obama-birth-certificate-dies-plane-crash-2d11732106

Since I work with photoshop, I know exactly what a layered photoshop document is. But this is silly to argue about. He will be elected again if the powers that be want him in there, even if they have to do some sort of hinky thing like put him in as VP, then bump Kamala off (HRC, where are you?)

We are all worried about the eventual communism of America. That's what concerns us. You should be concerned about it too. Marxism is not an idealogy, it's a tactic. Divide and conquer. Tell one side they are oppressed, and blame their oppression on the other side. Works every time. We all need to get together on this and stop worrying about the minor players (Presidents, Senate, etc) Satan is winning, and America will be a total shithole if we let him.

I did notice you never addressed Joes mental illness and competency and if you think he should be the Democratic Nominee or how is it that overnight the Democratic Party & Hollywood turned on Joe allowing the public to now say he is mentally unfit.

Brain, I think both sides are blindly following the two defective leaders each side have running. Biden is old and doddering. I'd argue his administration has their act together but having him at top is a bad thing. You need to accept that that the other side feels just as just as you in their feelings that Trump in many ways is unfit. I think in a more fair world both sides would agree to this in some way and not thing the other sides is nuts and their guy is a miracle.

Manny, what do you mean by “far right?” I have met and known of “far right” people here. When I was growing up in Santa Barbara there was a neo Nazi group headquartered in Montecito. There was also a landlord whose downtown office was full of Hitler photos. But most of the people commenting or writing columns here at SB Current are not “far right.” The ones I know personally are extremely liberal, in the sense that they have no trouble with differing opinions. I don't agree with all of them about everything and that's fine with me and fine with them. If you want to read a magazine that's not liberal, pick up The Independent. Nick Welsh spends his column in a TMI state, whining about his abscess tooth (please, Nick, no) and blaming his bad mood on Trump. Marianne Partridge inherited 18,000 acres and lectures the rest of Santa Barbara about giving up their single family neighborhoods so millions more can be packed in - but god forbid they ever try to take 1” of her ranch. Tell me what's liberal about that? If you and I were to sit down and talk about things that matter, other than Trump, I bet we'd agree a lot. And we'd both enjoy and might even join forces to save what's good about Santa Barbara. Here's what's so sad about you allowing yourself to be used by the elite Democrats: they don't want you to find common ground with your fellow Santa Barbaran. They are using you to divide and conquer.

Not prepared to argue the merits of Obamas Birth Certificate. I simply don’t know and don’t care. I do know he was an abysmal President. He was supposed to be a unifier, but it should be obvious to all he merely stoked the flames of racism. I’ll give him credit on Biden, correctly pointed out he is a grifter and notorious “fuck up” (Barry’s words).

Hi Manny: One of the things I like about the S.B. Current is being able to read and participate in the comment section. I hope you do stay subscribed to it and comment on things that you find interesting. About it being "far right", I am not sure what that really means. I can only speak to my political position which is keeping government as small as possible and following the U.S. Constitution. That used to be a pretty main stream position at one time but ... As long as we try to state our positions with civility and an honest try to get our point across, I think this platform can become a great place to interact with other readers.
