SBCurrent readers should know, now that the Santa Barbara News-Press is no more, that Andy Caldwell and Bonnie Donovan ("Did You Know?...) are the only watchdogs Santa Barbara residents can depend upon to keep track of doings and mis-doings at the City and County government levels. And, that they both do an excellent – the best, actually – job of it, as Andy's latest illustrates. Kudos to both.
Our area is addicted to electing these people in one form or another, over and over again, and always with the same result.
Make no mistake. It is an addiction similar to alcoholism. A “sober” electorate would have kicked all of these people out of office statewide years and years ago.
The thing that allows them to continue is the crazy amount of affluence in this area. People with lots and lots of money are not affected by the policies that are inflicted. Many of them don’t even live here full-time. This is a shiny bauble, Santa Barbara, to merely impress their friends with.
As they say in drug rehab programs:
“Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results.”
As a resident in SBCO since 1950, I have to agree with Andy- this County has always played the favorites game- who could build a car wash/gas station on a creek?! Payoff?!
