I am one of the Republicans who supported Roy Lee. I even wrote him a check. They say politics makes strange bedfellows. I’m glad to see the departure of Das. It does not mean the departure of the dominant Democrat party, which is destroying our state and nation. But, in a small way, Roy’s victory was a win for all of us.

Ditto. I too am a Republican and voted for Lee. I vote for the person that has common sense, period.

Term limits, the way it is supposed to work. By will of the voters on the merits; not by passive fiat.

So if Republicans want to win they don’t run a candidate and vote for Democrats, got it.

Miracle in the state: Garvey 33% - Schiff 29% at last count.

Of course the Lee/ Porter votes are Schiff's for the taking in the general election. Unless the worm is turning and Independents are finally choosing what is in their own best future interests for this state. That is not Adam Schiff and more anti-business, tax and spend, pro-budget deficit Democrats.

Reminder: most local public offices are officially non-partisan. Let's keep them that way.

Keep the Big Machine money out of local politics. Reject the use of sheer campaign dollars raised as a surrogate for popular support. Wonder instead, who and what is getting bought and sold.

In order to pass from left to right, one must first pass through the center.

For very simplistic guideposts between right and left: Still looking for the Goldilocks center:

Conservative: Limited government; free and competitive markets; protection of private property; rule of law.

Liberal: Big Government; micromanaged, nanny-state economy; confiscation of private property; two systems of justice.

We're not in disagreement. But we live in the world as it "is" not as it "ought" to be. We should aim at the ideal but we will not get there in one great big jump, it will require many steps forward. SB county governance took a step forward and we should celebrate, but still keep moving forward.

Liberal: slick, shady, attracts big money, isn’t afraid to innovate and ‘adjust’ the voting procedure, knows their way around the street and . . . wins elections. Their motto: “The average stupid voter will believe what we tell ‘em if we promise them enough and tell ‘em often enough.”

Conservatives: nice, honest, intelligent, fair play, committed to higher ideals, convinced that people who cheat will ultimately repent . . . They remind me of the Harvard football fight song:

Fight fiercely, Harvard

Fight, fight, fight!

impress them with our prowesss, do!

Oh fellows, please don't let the crimson down,

Be of stout heart and true

Come on, chaps, fight for Harvard's glorious name

Won't it be peachy if we win the game?

(oh, goody!)

Let’s try not to injure them,

Fight fight fight!

Lets not be rough though!

Fight, fight, fight!

Sorry Earl, but I think you mixed up conservative and liberal. Under Trump, the ultimate con-man, so called conservative ideals have become the slogan for unsavory characters like Q Anon, white supremacists, Proud Boys and their likes. Trump has ruined your conservative movement. Tell me what is nice, honest or intelligent about your leader.

Hi Nance, thank you for your thoughtful commentary.

I love Trumpy because he realizes that politics is a dirty game and the only way to play it is to be tougher, dirtier and smarter than your opponent. Keep one step this side of illegal, kick butt and take no prisoners. He reminds me of my other very favorite politician, Lyndon Johnson - tough, crude & obnoxious, but when he got an opponent, (not ‘adversary’), in a back room, he got it done! Instead of “Let us reason together”, he had a different motto - “When you got ‘em by the balls their hearts and minds will follow.” :) My kinda guy!

Ahhh but there is one big difference. Johnson acquired his power and then used it for great purposes….his Civil Rights bill and his War on Poverty. It appears to me that Trump’s goals are power in itself and revenge.

Why is it conservative to want small government? Why do we care for free markets? What about conserving social values and opposing degeneracy, having a large and effective government willing to crackdown on subversive elements (drugs, pornography, corruption)?

I agree, small government serves best…and I think the path to that end needs to start with a deep cleansing of our elected representatives…

Imagine what would happen, if, by law, every US Congressman/woman, US Senator, President etc. (all the down thru local county and city councils) was by US law audited every 1-2 years by an independent agency?

Imagine what would happen if those audits extended to all family members of such 'elected' official?

What happens when the kickbacks dry up?

Would elected officials act in the best interest of citizens?

Roy Lee, unlike so many 1st District Supervisors over the past 25 years or so, was not selected by the Demoncrat, er, Democrat Machine, that is the central committee who decides for us who our 'leaders' will be.
