I retired to the small wonderful town of Lompoc in 2015. Because I had been very active in poliitics in Orange County, and would be attending President Trump's innauguration when he won, I was appalled that three so called Republican councilmen and mayor were planning to put a drag strip here on the apron of our airport. One man, Bob Lingl, was a candidate for mayor and he was agaisnt the planned drag strip in the town. I became his campaign chairman and he won mayor of Lompoc. The drag strip lost. Then I organized. rallies for Trump and. found out everyone was afraid to place Trump signs on their lawns. for retribution by local democrats. But our rallies gave people courage, and soon you would see Trump signs everywhere. Thousands of Lompoc voters voted for Trump, and I will be organizing rallies again for that great man. Stand up and be counted by joining our rallies for President Donald Trump in Lompoc! Carol in Lompoc

We need to pray that God hears us and gives us good leaders. As a nation we need to repent. That starts with the church. We all need to speak up and not be cowed into silence by the fear of someone disapproving of our views. Truth is powerful and a little light chases away a lot of darkness. I talk with people every day, and assume they have some knowledge of truth in their mind and heart. It was put there by the Creator, however it may be buried by a persons desire to deny it and pretend we are in charge. What is encouraging is how many folks eyes light up and they express similar ideas and a longing for a return to sanity in this nation. Every one of us needs to be courageous and speak up truth wherever we go and to whomever we speak.

By the way, the answer to avocado root rot it replacing the old trees with breeds that are fungus resistant. Teach your children and grandchildren the truth. In SB we have a great resource in the Young Americas Foundation which brings great truth tellers in regularly. We are starting to bring out teen age grandkids.

Borrowed from reader Gil, in a response to June 24th article from SB Current publisher;

Name one of these Christian values that relate to Trump.

Honesty

Fidelity

Humility

Charity.

You can’t do it. Trump is a faux Chtistian mining gullible folks for their votes and money.

Peter Scott,

What Patriots love about Trump is that he puts America first, not the globalist agenda, that is good enough for government work but it is much much more than that. He wants to restore law and order to the border. He is the most pro-life president in a long time- even if he doesn't meet the Christian standard of pro-life, he is multitudes more prolife than pro-death Joe Biden. He rejects the Grean fraud of the fake climate change agenda. He rejects all the gender ideology bullbutter. He cares about the American economy. He is not a war monger like the uniparty and there is so much more that have nothing to do with your trick question. If he is none of those things in your subjective eyes (informed by mainstream media and currupted DOJ) he is one hell of a lot better than crooked Joe Biden.

Expand full comment

PS: I can. All of them apply to Trump. Take off your own blinders. Why did you label these as only "Christian values". Do they not exist in any other human values system? Or are you keen to apply only your own standards for hypocrisy, in order to take a smug victory lap against your version of Donald Trump?

Trump is honest to a fault, blunt, in your face with few filters. He is true to his campaign promises - promises made, promises kept; he is humbled by the task ahead of him; charity is his own personal sacrifice to undertake this very difficult task at this time in his life, and at his own huge personal expense.

I'm not supporting Trump because he is espousing Christian values. At best he support cultural Christianity because it garners votes, I support him because the alternative would be a secular neo liberal. Joe Biden is a Catholic in name only, he can't even be bothered to support a single socially conservative stance held by the Church like the right to life for all people, especially the unborn.

Thomas John,

You are surely one of my favorite posters on here, but perhaps you don't know what the word "demon" means? The liberal left you appear to espouse is truly Luciferian- for all Trumps faults and foibles, he is not demonic while on the other hand the liberal leftist positions are in fact demonic. Abortion is satanic. The gender ideologies are satanic. And so much more evil is perpetrated in the name of new and false virtues, like "tolarance" "equity" and chief among them empathy- Those who live in glass houses ought not to cast such hypocritical stones.

I agree, Thomas John (affectionately John Thomas) is one of my favorite posters here. While surely a Democrat, TJ is willing to engage in civil dialog and I feel he maintains an open mind to other viewpoints. This is a sharp contrast to posters like Nancy Freeman who is generally hostile, crude, profane and contributes nothing to the conversation.

Expand full comment

Quite right Jeff, TJ asks and answers good questions with the demeanor of a real gentleman. There are several ideologues who are arrogant, rude and deeply delusional and don't seem to know it, presumably because of the pain of two broken arms resulting from incessantly patting themselves on the back by virtue signaling.

Expand full comment

Thank you both for the comments below. I try (my best - not always 100%) to be civil and polite. I'm here not to totally stir the pot - but add comments where I think part of the dialog is wrong for lack of a better word. And Yeah, mostly a democrat - but that is getting harder and harder to say as decades move on. I think I've wandered over enough that some of my footsteps are hitting the outside paths of some of what are now RINOs in thinking.

But what I really get out of this site is a chance to understand, or try to, different perspectives that challenge my thoughts or positions. I'll never vote for Trump for a lot of reasons. But my mind is much more open to media bias, and I've stated before that I don't think there is a deep state - there has been more collusion occurring that doesn't seem fair in in hindsight.

And Jeff - it pissed me off a few months ago with the John Thomas mix match - but now I smile and take it in the mostly good humor I believe your mean it in.

Rough going on this distract. I am not saying it is not accurate or truthful but for sure it is incendiary.

I happen to agree that the 2020 election was stolen with illegal votes. My rationale and reason is that there is no way Biden gets more votes than Obama and there is no way a seating President gets 7 million more votes than 2016 and losses. The population growth and polling data does not support the result.

In Biden's case, he didn't even campaign 🙄. He was the basement candidate that no one liked. People voted against Trump, not for Biden. Even so, the numbers and data do not pass the smell test like Biden losing Ohio and Florida and still win.

As for us, we keep voting and verify that our vote was counted. Other than that, there isn't much we can do. We voted for Obama under the auspices that he was going to resolved healthcare. Well that didn't happen and we got a worse policy than the one we had IMO. As a matter of discipline, we don't either contribute or participate in political events.

Expand full comment

The numbers totally pass the smell test - if you know what you're smelling. The 2020 election saw historically high voter turnout, with more than 159 million Americans casting ballots. By percentage it was the highest turnout in 120 years at 66.7%. The increased turnout contributed to both candidates receiving record-breaking vote totals, Trump also receiving more votes (74,222,958) than any previous presidential candidate other than Joe. Two marginal at best candidates brining everyone out to vote.

Ballot harvesting easily brought in those extra votes, mainly from CA and NY. What does that tell you? It was a calculated exercise in political theater to gas-light the highly dubious election night results, Ironic since millions of "extra" CA and NY votes did not change the numbers of CA or NY electoral votes. Sheer theater in these heavily unionized and ballot harvesting states. But it did serve as an immediate cudgel to use, and still use, against anyone who dared to question the 2020 results.

Another distinction was the very careful parsing of post-election claims. "There was no proof of wide spread voter fraud" . (1) voter fraud and election fraud are two very different things. Why did they chose only "voter fraud"; and ignore the numerous "covid" election procedures that were corrupted and never explained; some of which were also thrown out much later by the courts. (2) The corruptions did not need to be "widespread"; just targeted to a few key swing state precincts to drag Biden over the line, late at night by highly questionable blue precincts.

Fact: Biden won by only a total 43,000 votes coming in late at night from key swing state precincts. This is a very slim margin. Compare that to the immediate drum beats about his "81 million ballot margin - the most popular president ever" intended up front to shut everyone up. But this popularity coming only from CA and NY curiously.

What is with this sprious claim other than an opportunity to give thanks to our Founders who built in buffers to protect us from mob rule by creating a Republic and not a "democracy".

Expand full comment

Ballot harvesting is used by both sides - and should be done away with or done with tighter measures to ensure it's accurate. And yeah, CA has some of the most lax harvesting rules out there. Time for a change on that.

Ballot-harvesting was one more Trojan Horse "election reform" that played to the Democrat advantage since they already knew how to play the GOTV ground game. Any one can play now that the "rules" are better understood.

Agree, ballot-harvesting is far too leaky to be part of a zero tolerance election integrity standard.

I think about how back in the times when Christians were persecuted they had to be very careful identifying who they could speak to. One would casually draw an arc in the sand with the toe of their sandal, and if the other added the second arc, forming the icthus fish, they were confirmed and would sneak off to talk about Jesus. Nowadays conservatives do the same, tossing out hints in conversation and hoping for a response that reveals the presence of a like-minded person. This self-censorship is shameful, but prudent when surrounded by those whose urge to control and blame is their own religion.

This is ironic. I say this because I grew up in Mumbai, a very large city on the west coast of India. Moved to the United States in 1991 as an 18 year old to attend college and stayed back. That was 34 years ago. As an 18 year old I was old guard conservative, more of a libertarian constitutionalist. I bring up India hecause even the youth in India today want Trump to come back as president. And I mean almost everyone you speak with in India is pro Trump. Meanwhile here in the United States, especially in California it is a whole different ball game. But as they say, one has to seriously hit rock bottom before crawling your way up again. I recently replaced an aging American flag that flies in front of my house. I think I have the only American flag left in my neighborhood. There are a few rainbows, hate has no home here, everyone is welcome here in nine languages and a Kennedy flag. I wonder if a MAGA Republican would be welcome where hate has no home? I am afraid to ask. I am also afraid to replace that American flag with a Trump 2024 flag. Oh, I would love to display my support of Trump, but in my neighborhood I am afraid. All of my neighbors HATE Trump and have made that fact clear. I live next to these people, and we get along just fine until the subject of Trump comes up. I have learned to avoid the subject. That is sad enough but even sadder is what happened to a house a couple of blocks away when a Trump flag was displayed in 2020. The flag was torn down, but undeterred the homeowner replaced the flag only to have the second flag torn down along with spray painted obscenities on his house. He did not replace the flag for a third time. He has since moved to Arizona. I cannot say for sure if the flag incident and the vandalism had anything to do with it, but I would guess so. I too would like to leave California to get away from the hostility I feel from leftists (my neighbors) toward conservatives (me). Family commitments prevent my leaving the state now but there is nothing I would like more than to leave California. My neighbors would say "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out" Politics have become the politics of division and hate and it is to the detriment of all Americans. The really sad part is that I do not see it getting better and I see no path back to civility.

The internet and AI are wonderful tools. They permit those who self-identify as informed to also self-identify as having done the research to back up informed opinion. Any position at all can be "supported" by an internet link. With a little tenacity you can find links that would support other opinions. The link you sent is a poll conducted by a government daily newsletter written for government executives. Is Government Executive magazine something you regularly consult to inform your opinions? No, you went to Google or chat and posted the first thing that supported your notion that government employees are a roughly even mix of Republican and Democrat. I can tell you from personal observation that government employees both federal and state-local overwhelmingly vote democrat. I include employees of the public education system as government employees as well. Finally, I would say that the highest aspiration for a Democrat is to work for the government is a self-evident truth not amenable to debate.

Sickens me when I think about how Big Government now highly partisan voting loyalties have distorted out one person, one vote foundational ideals.

Voting on Election Day can work for people who actually show up and do it in person. But don't tell people to vote at the very last minute using the ballot that was mailed to them. If for some reason the signature is rejected, there will be little time to cure the ballot. So, if they vote on or right before Election Day, they should bring the vote by mail ballot but void it there and get an in-person ballot instead.

At least 40% of registered Republicans don't vote at all. So telling them to vote at the last minute is not a way to increase turnout and win elections. Those folks need to be told to vote as soon as possible upon receipt of their vote by mail ballot.

Thanks!

With regard to voting on Election Day, I agree, and yet I was hearing last time around that it was so predictable that conservatives would vote primarily on Election Day that other nefarious plans were implemented to take advantage of that likelihood such as “machine breakdowns” that caused such long lines and delays that people left or simply couldn’t vote in time before the poles closed. I heard that whole batches of votes were discarded because the percentage of votes were likely to be so high for Trump that it was worth it to lose a few Biden votes. Who knows what else they will come up with. The point is while i agree that is where we should be ultimately, I think we need to be more unpredictable than that and use the existing legal methods to our advantage in the meantime.
