Interesting read Thomas. I find your analogy of the events leading up to, and during the Civil War, to be unsettling. Yes, the current Democratic Party is acting much like the Confederacy. Jefferson Davis would be proud. Oh wait, it was the same Party that ceded from the Union in 1861!
The similarities are uncanny. Threats of boycotts, intimidation, violence and even assassination! Ya, ol’ “Honest Abe” found that out the hard way! Donald Trump almost found out as well, not once but twice.
Past history reminds us of the events in the South post Reconstruction. Certain separatist elements formed the Klu Klux Klan in order to stoke fear and terror among emancipated blacks and others. Murder, arson, mayhem was common tactics of the KKK. Today, Antifa and other groups are using many of the same methods in order to attack the very sovereignty of our federal government.
The Democrats are always screaming at Trump. About no one is above the law. When the Democrats are falsely accusing him of some crime. Yet, here the Democrats are saying “illegal aliens” are above the law. Even when the “illegal alien” has committed a serious crime here, and should be deported. California will not honor a judge ruling for deportation. Democrats are lying hypocrites. Most people who are Democrats in California are ignorant vain puppet followers. Of whatever the Democrats establishment is stating. Pathetic.
Another very nice summation, Mark ........Democrats demand illegal aliens are "above the law"
Democrats use illegal aliens to pad more Big Government services and more government employee hiring. Otherwise known as, using tax dollars to buy a permanent Democrat voting majority.
An article worth posting on my office wall, Thomas. I temporarily live in Georgia, one of those States where laws remain to be interpreted as they like. Some things really don't change that much; the interpretation of what's called "written law" is one of them. No doubt a hangover from the Civil War, not accepting they lost the War. At least I haven't seen any lynchings, but the level of intellect here is certainly questionable.
Quite a illuminating article your points are very accurate in their indication of where this country is headed. If the Supreme Court does not get a handle on the situation by clarifying some of the laws that have been left purposely incomplete.
The Confederate Constitution before the current (like that?) Federal Constitution was faced with political obstructionists.
The question becomes one of when doe the powers of California, finally get it?
They are watching a State flushing down the hole of Debt, a Attorney General who has filed idiotic laws suits against the Federal Government. It is obvious this is a game of "we know" most will not work but, just but, one will stick to the walls long enough to give the middle of the road and right something to think about.
"Americans settled that question once—at the cost of 620,000 lives and four years of civil war. We should not need to litigate it again."
The other question should also be asked when you come from other countries who did this same thing to you and yours when are you going to get it.?
In another State the Governor of that State "released" over a 1,000 convicted and documented illegals who had ICE detainees orders.
This is like having floppy disk CPM computers and WWII radar to run air traffic control.
Yes thx.. It seems as though CA under Dem control is one giant fraud machine. Populations are so massive now that average elected officials are incapable of understanding what they are doing. The gov paycheck is the goal. That and gov institutions are failing and corrupt. A fine kettle of fish,
Slave states once claimed the economy would collapse without cheap labor and it split the nation, leading to the Civil War.
Today we hear the same thing about illegal immigration: that we ‘need’ a low-wage labor class to do jobs Americans supposedly won’t. Different era, same excuse.
Back then it divided families and the country. Today, the issues feel all too familiar.”
"......... framing them as humanitarian protections for “immigrant communities.” .........
This is not equal protection; it is calculated unequal application of the laws. .........."

Brilliant summation, Mr Cole . Democrats go for the emotional jugular, control of the language for partisan gain, and nothing else.
What does "humanitarian protection of immigrant communities" even mean? It means installing a Democrat majority, at any cost to the rest of the nation.
Thomas, very interesting take on Illegal immigrants counting as part of the determination for the number of representatives for the legislature. I had not idea that these people not citizens of the USA could contribute to the biased representation we not have. Dems scream reform but dont act. I guess if you have a good thing going why change. Cheers
Good Article outlining the lead up to the civil war with today’s parallels…makes me wonder, how long will it be before Trump invokes the Insurrection Act to wrest back control from rouge states…to my mind, the military is the only way…prosecutions & transparency are the only way to save & defend the rule of law, and save our way of life…yet, these past few years have demonstrated our corrupt & captured court systems…seems to me, the day of reckoning is fast approaching…
Since the fraud riddled 2020 election of auto pen Joe, it has been my published opinion the military is the only real solution. It may take a while to get there, but when corrupt judges run the government things have to change.
A wonderful overview of a serious problem. I'd like to know more about the damage to children within the immigrant community. Where are the 14 children that were discovered working at the marijuana plant in Carpinteria and where are the thousands of children who have been brought here illegally and are unaccounted for?
Indeed the Carpinteria pot farm owners were big Dem donors.. to Salud, Hart, Limon’ and more.
And so it’s no surprise the pot farm owners are suffering no consequence for the 350 illegals they hired, which included cartel members and other criminal aliens of sex crimes, assaults, and the children. Where are they now?
We could ask our local Dem compliant DA, who’s turned two blind eyes to the matter.
And BTW, the pot farm owner was the founder of Sonos. And the multiple farms, the largest in the US, the five pot stores and assets are worth $350 MILLION according to corporate records. But No fines for democrat lawbreakers.
Sharp historical parallel. The census representation angle is the part folks don't talk abuot enough, basically turning non-enforcement into congressional seats is a pretty direct incentive. The Supremacy Clause point is solid too, if states can selectively ignore federal law based on partisan advantage, the whole framework starts cracking. What's intresting is how both eras framed it as a moral stance when the mechanics are fundamentally about power.

Yes. And democrats may be aware of their parties tawdry past, and work feverishly to erase it.

Indeed. The left’s mantra that no one is above the law apparently doesn’t include their illegal immigrant underclass.

Great article!
“History really does rhyme.

Yes indeed with left it’s all about division .. men from women, black from white.. federal Laws only apply when they favor CA Democrats.
I have often thought about this. States not abiding by federal law and how the civil war came to be.
It seems like a preliminary measure to address this would be to charge officials with crimes.

This is a wonderful summation of the parallels of the wind up to the Civil War and the present political situation.

Like El Salvador, we need to begin the process of impeaching compromised/rogue judges…coming soon after the public learns of the election rigging?

It was Camarillo, not Carpinteria where the 14 minors were found.
Indeed the Carpinteria pot farm owners were big Dem donors.. to Salud, Hart, Limon’ and more.
