An interesting fact of history is that the Reign of Terror ended up with the revolutionaries turning on each other. Robespierre was taken to the guillotine, himself. We are witnessing the similar situation in the Democratic Party nationally, where socialists and DSA communists are now battling with the traditional Democrats.

Very well said. Consider this: a child who is not “allowed” to disagree ultimately becomes resentful and explodes. Is that the goal?

The Guillotine has symbolic meaning dating back to the French Revolution, and we all know how that turned out. The message was clear to those landlords in attendance…off with their heads!

Using intimidation, bullying, retaliation and threats of violence is nothing new for the left. Today, we see multiple examples of this by the left, as the DSA gains in popularity with younger voters.

“Cultural Marxism” is right out of “Rules for Radicals” by Saul Alinsky and standard operating procedure for the DSA. Simply put, make the setting so uncomfortable for landlords and those that oppose rent control, by subjecting those to public humiliation, and thereby making social change possible.

Advocates of rent control will not be satisfied until City and County governments fund massive public, subsidized housing projects.

I find the following interesting.

" Councilmember Alejandra Gutierrez is not an outsider; she’s a fourth-generation Santa Barbaran .... the Santa Barbara Democrat Party declined to endorse her. Not long afterward, she reported receiving death threats."

Welcome to the not so new political bullies. It started in the 1960's with the Left willing to threaten and burn because they did not agree. One only has to look at the massive and destructive swing the so called "Dem's" have taken embracing Antifa, DSA communist base, and more. The former Councilwoman is a woman without a party and it doesn't make a difference what she can se habla.

The Guillotine was out and promoted for people like me who dared to question the fast failing "alternative" transportation plans started in the 1980's (not one bike path). Now you only have to see Old Town SB, and the multiple failures that was supposed to be the grand design called the St. Francis Transportation Plan that has failed in all major points. The bullies of this type of politics are not independent thinkers but sheep following "planners" who have failed at the cost of hundreds of millions of tax dollars. Move along, ignore failure.

I'll close with Mr. Campbell's closing:

And a timeless warning:

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” (Exodus 20:16, KJV)

A republic cannot survive if its citizens forget they are neighbors before they are political opponents.

Thanks

Brian, thank you for a some great insights. What the difference between a guillotine and a hangman’s noose? Not a thing! It’s the optics and those guillotine creators got exactly they wanted. The lack of community in Santa Barbara is becoming more evident every day. We need a City Council that represents as their primary function the entire city, not just their district. Maybe if we had a council that was focused on the entire city there would be more cooperation and problem solving on the=city council. So maybe we need to take a look at district elections themselves. If the districts were created to represent “minorities “ whether that be racial or financial or other, those districts maybe illegal as the US Supreme Court has determined. Let’s get rid of districts and return to at large city elections.

Interesting that they would turn their discussions to Trump and or blame home for their own decisions and not be accountable for them.

If Trump leaves office or doesn't win again, what will the news have to talk about nothing. All the MSMs will fail.

I do blame the MSM ,actors, political leaders for provoking the violence in people. Those people aren't being held accountable for their behavior and or rebuked, the people the. imitate this behavior. They believe that they will not be held accountable either. So to get their two minutes of fame they commit acts of violence and or threats.

With social media and the Internet ,people can hide behind and make those threats without consequence.

Would they do that to you in public probably would not.

People are consumed by their hatred of Trump. It rules their lives. They cannot think of anything else or so anything else.

I personally don't like Gavin, but he doesn't consume my life . I'm hoping change will happen.

I don't know if there's a way to dial back these people.

There are also organizations that are given lots of money from China or Soros to fund the rallies and Indivisible and others. Casa De la raza was given some of the 500k from the city and nearly threatened the City if they didn't support them. There are many others even in SB who will show up and cause disruptions to meetings and events.

People want their way and will use any means necessary to get them.

It starts at the top. Leaders and public figures need to be adults and the leaders and stop with the rhetoric, the hate and the threats of violence against others

Talk about making it all about a TDS version of Republicans. The row of marching GOP elephants was an overt choice in this town that keeps electing only Democrats, even to officially non-partisan offices.

Sticking only one set of donkey ears on only one single elephant among the many on this protest sign. while still retaining the elephant's trunk did not make this a "bi-partisan" protest statement. Only a statement the sign protestor contemptuously assumed we would not notice.

Do an online search and you will learn this protestor, who was identified on edHat, has a history of expensive protests against another local institution. While she continues to enjoy significant tax-payer funded employment. Free speech, ain't it grand?

The sign was shocking, unacceptable and is very worthy of the attention it is getting. Mission accomplished, Ms Protestor. The sign was also a threatening slap in the face, that will hopefully wake up sleepy local voters to see what has happened to this town.

A very important game-changing election city-wide is only a few months away. The ugly national partisan divide has seeped deeply into our own local politics as well.
