Thank you for changing my morning routine, adding intelligent discourse to my caffeine. With Trump's win the whinge of the Woke is slacking off, and Patriots have a renewed sense of the possibility that is this Great Nation revived. We who have been biting our tongues in self-censorship are now empowered to have genuine enthusiasm and a sense that our Community, like-minded and proud, has much work to do.

While attempting to thrive in a mostly democratic town I find SB Current to be a breath of fresh air and a place to feel connected to others with the same mindset..so appreciative ! Thank You !!!!

Appreciate very much the conservative views. What a breath of fresh air and a great alternative to the predictable political commentary from the left. Santa Barbara has a great tradition of conservatism, being the former home of the great Ronald Reagan!

SB Current has provided a strong conservative voice in progressive Santa Barbara and progressive California. Perhaps this voice has been strengthened by the fact that many of us locally have experienced firsthand the absurd ideas and policies of progressive politics. Keep up the good work, much of the writing is sterling.

Happy Birthday, SB Current! Thank you for creating a place where conservative voices and patriotic, freedom-loving people can share and express their thoughts and points of view. It's very gratifying and reassuring to see so many like-minded folks in our community who contribute so much to your ("our") site with their lived experiences and thoughtful (and thought-provoking) content. There is much to be thankful for as we head into the second year of your existence and I (like many others) look forward to grabbing my morning cup of Joe and building on this tradition. Cheers!

Happy 1st year SB Current, I enjoy reading the posts and comments every day. And I will say this again, the more local the story, the more readers you will attract. Bonnie is my favorite poster, btw.

Which brings me to the Morton Bay fig tree story. I live four blocks down the street and pass it every day to my gardening jobs in the Funk Zone. Thank you city of SB for taking down the tall chain link fence, now take the short one down too. It serves no purpose. The so called carvings into the trunks are few and far between. Just look at the size of the the root/trunks coming off the tree! How in the world could carving anything on the trunks hurt this gigantic tree? As a comparison look at the fig trees on Cabrillo between Chapala and Anacapa. These trees have MANY scars from people carving on them and the trees are fine. Or look at the fig trees next to Marshall's on Canon Perdido, this is my favorite example. There are scars from when trucks tore off entire limbs, and again, if the trees could talk they would be like, "You talkin to me?" Last but not least are the fig trees on Milpas street. (yes they are not Morton Bay fig trees but are close relatives) Again, numerous scars are visible, but check out their habitat!! The trees on Milpas have small wells around their trunks and are surrounded by sidewalks and street paving. If you have seen street repairs you can see the pavement is about 8 inches thick at a minimum. And yet ALL of these street trees are thriving.

My point here is there should be no fencing of any kind around the Morton Bay fig tree at the train station. Some people go to church at the Mission, or All Saint's by the Sea, or other houses of worship. As a gardener of 35 years here this tree is my church. I want to be able to sit between the giant roots and worship. . . . (J. Livingston, can I get a ruling here if I have a case? I'm being denied my place of worship by the city.)

And just one more thing, if we had our own Elon & Vivek to lead a local DoGE, Jill Zachary, the Parks & Rec director would be the first to be fired, IMO.

Two thumbs and two toes up for Santa Barbara Current! Please everyone drive safely:

A person commented on Santa Barbara Nextdoor observing how a girl rode “perfectly” through a round-about on an electric bicycle. Yes, it's not always about following the traffic rules and riding "perfectly," it's also the OTHER drivers that need to follow the same traffic rules and riding "perfectly." If the electric bicycle isn't riding at the same speed as other drivers, then you run into a "differential" speed issue. The fact you could have other drivers moving faster than the electric bicycle increases the odds of being in an accident. The odds of being hit increases if you have vehicles passing you capable of moving at higher speeds. I learned this stuff when riding a motorcycle ... watch out when operating in a "differential speed" environment. The more you have vehicles whizzing by you your chances of being hit dramatically increases. Ideally, ride in an environment where your speed isn't exceeded by others. A good book to read is "How To Drive into Accidents and How Not To" by Robert A. Pease. It is a 472-page book written by a famous Silicon Valley electronic analog design engineer. Although the book was published in 1996, the facts are timeless. Find it used on Amazon or eBay. I've driven over 100,000 miles on a motorcycle and never had an accident, thanks Mr. Pease.

The original comment made: Comment on Nextdoor: "Yesterday morning, while driving north on CVR to get to the roundabout and freeway, I passed an electric bicycle rider, appeared to be a teenage girl, riding in the bike path. She had on a helmet and seemed to be doing all the right things. As I got closer to the roundabout, she then came in behind me. I thought her very brave to take the bike around the roundabout. Nevertheless, she did, and she did it perfectly, keeping her eyes on the road, following traffic rules, and then going on down towards the Cabrillo underpass. So, here is a shout out to her and her parents. Obviously, she has learned the rules of the road and follows them, while keeping herself safe. Good job!"

This is a good example of how "critical thinking" does not work with everyone. Mostly the responses were positive and mostly made by women. Only one guy didn't think it was a good idea saying, "I would walk my bike around that roundabout. Risky proposition!" Myself, I don't like roundabouts which takes me back to New England. They are subject to too many distractions when driving through one. They are places waiting for an accident to happen, especially with visiting tourists that aren't familiar with navigating through roundabouts which can cause driver panic. Didn't SB introduce roundabouts to the state of CA? In the State of MA, roundabouts were derived from a common road intersecting point made at one time by cattle crossings. What's SB's excuse? Spend money to the tune of $18M for a roundabout. Good example of a "do we really need it" expense. Especially in a town with tourists that are coming here to relax, not panic.

Congratulations on first anniversary! Your publication has more than replaced the Sunday morning editorial/opinion section of the NewsPress. In fact, it's far better because of the comment feature, where the topics can be expanded (and can be expected to!). The local "media" is slanted and is lacking in the real story in many cases. Some say SB Current is preaching to the choir, but I believe it's preaching to the ever increasing congregation. Carry on!

1st the National Guard was offered to Pelosi/the Capital and she refused it. I don't agree with storming the Capital BUT the people were upset... Just like they are now but Nov 5th they did it correctly, with their vote.
