Hi Lou - thanks for the terrific column, although as usual I disagree with you about Trump.

A few things: why do you believe the B. S. about Kamala doing so well? This is all being fabricated by the Democrat Media Industrial Complex. If you talk to anyone outside of a blue region like this one, you'll hear how overwhelmingly more popular Trump is. I have a friend who just drove over seven thousand miles across the country and he said he saw almost no Harris signs but thousands upon thousands of Trump ones.

If Kamala was really doing so well, then why wouldn't they have her do debates right away? Why wouldn't she be talking to reporters?

I think it's far more likely that they're willing to pay gazillions for the lies about her popularity because they want to cheat on the election and this is the only way they can possibly get away with it.

Here's the timeline I see: I think they'll try to get out of the Trump/Harris debate coming up because they remember what Tulsi did to her and they know Kamala will really tank against Trump. But if she goes through with the debate and does indeed suck, then they'll try to throw Trump in jail because they can't try to assassinate him again.

At the same time, they're working harder and harder to get Joe out. Because then Kamala will be president, and they can declare a state of military emergency - Putin, whatever excuse - and cancel the election. All they really want is to finish their coup. You talk about people getting out to vote to save the country. Lou, I think the Dems have taken us past that.

A Trump/Vance sign was just put up in yard down the street. This never happened in my blue neighborhood before. I see and hear more and more people in Santa Barbara, of all places, openly for Trump, including young men and women. What I sense from young people is the cross-party alliance of Trump with Gabbard and Kennedy speaks to their fed-upness with our two parties. But as I said earlier, if there is an actual vote I'm convinced Trump will win in a landslide. But - and I hope I'm wrong - I don't think there'll be an election.

When I see Polly, I think of Polly Wolly Doodle, once a slave song changed to a children's song. Which raises the question: Why do blacks vote Democrat when a Republican President fought for their rights? I really don't know. Can anyone explain? I might have known once, but at my age now I could've forgotten the answer.

How many who identify as African American today still trace their roots to a slave ancestor with any direct immediacy? WWII severed many of those former socio-political-residential ties into real time, real world concerns. Looking to the future; not the past. Did LBJ's "War on Poverty" distort former political loyalties, as he so crudely intended?

Do women really have raging present grievances about not being given the vote under the original US Constitution until only a century ago? There is wisdom including statutes of limitations in our jurisprudence traditions. There is a time to say enough is enough, and move on.

Colonialism, original land tenure, slavery, women's suffrage, just to name a few major transitions from other eras. Some we let go - like our current relationships with Japan, German and Italy compared to WWII. Others dig under the skin and fester or get exploited for ersatz political gain - reparations, UBI, Russia, Russia, Russia come to this post-Cold War mind.

Bottomline: I think one must measure political loyalties by current terms; not by past birth right demands. Social fluidity is an American hallmark. Good question. I will be interested to see what others say.

Thank you for your perspective. I was also thinking about Democrat Robert Byrd, a former member of the House of Representatives and the Senate and once a member of the KKK in the 1940's. It is great to see now many African Americans asking, "What has the Democratic Party done for me?" With the illegal immigrants now available for lower wage jobs, the Dems are not helping citizens of the country. And now Newsom brainstorming about giving illegals free money for housing ... well follow the voting ballot trail.

Expand full comment

Well, so far Trump has never won the popular vote, losing to Hillary by 3 million in 2016 and to Biden by 8 million in 2020. I don't think many of those 8 million voters have any better opinion of Trump now, with his evident cognitive decline, than they did in 2020. But, to answer your question, I should be just fine - I am an old, White, heterosexual, Christian male who is not poor - those who are not won't be so lucky.

SS: Founders, with good reason rejected a "popular vote" for President. We are the United STATES of America, remember? The popular vote remains a meaningless measurement today, in the world of legal partisan ballot harvesting anyway. And now including informal ballot harvesting as a new cultural norm in certain areas - a ballot is money in the bank, you don't just vote, you get paid by someone else to cast that ballot.

Those 2020 "popular votes" for Biden, and probably Clinton too, came mainly from NY and California were legal ballot harvesting has become state of the art as a GOTV exercise conducted by self-interested government employee union members.

All that work to gin up the popular votes in a few states, but which did not move the needle one iota to change the allocated numbers of electoral votes each of those state had to cast in the first place.

What was the point of those special interest ballot harvesting efforts in those few primarily blue states? Obviously to gas-light any opposition to the many questionable election processes allowed during the highly suspect 2020 US election year "global pandemic". But Biden got "81 million popular votes" .........so just shut up. And people did. We are wiser now.

God bless the founders for not letting NY and CA "popular votes" decide the fate of our entire nation. And they did not even know about California back then. But they knew human nature, so they built in buffers between our form of government and the far more quixotic impacts of mob rule.

Some poor fools fell for it so deeply they are now going to jail for answering Trump's summons to Washington, DC, to storm the capitol in his failed coup attempt. Meanwhile, this grifter is selling golden sneakers and autographed Bibles while babbling on about Hannibal Lecter, batteries and sharks. I saw a transcript of a recent Trump speech that must have challenged the punctuation skills of the transcriber; the utterance drolled on forever in search of a "period." We only watch Kamala to be amused, such as the upcoming pre-taped (meaning edited) CNN interview, a joke because her word-salad stuff will be removed. She'll look great. We had the experience of standing behind Obama, when he gave his introductory rally at SBCC in 2008/2007? We watched him whip up the crowd with chanting and cheering. Typical black church repetitions and cadences, building up this intentional crowd frenzy. Formulaic.

Yet when he turned away from the crowd to get a drink of water or take break from our vantage point, we saw his non-crowd face which was cold as ice. He got no joy from his rallies, he was just turning a crank. He had no use for the hustings, just a part of campaigning he was forced to endure. And he was good at it.

The real turning point for me however was his what was to become known as his infamous "fainting lady stunt". He called out with practiced words to some incidence in the crowd that no one else had seen ....... "she is gonna be fine people, give her some water, she just got a little over-excited" ...... which turned out to be the exact same words recorded on video at 7-8 more rallies. Oooohh, cooed the crowd, he is a healer, he is a savior.

My gut reaction.......how did he instantly know she was "gonna be fine" ... something felt instinctively creepy about that very moment. I never had to walk back my original Obama gut check - cold, calculating and phony. And I was a Democrat at that time. I felt it was "her turn" in 2008; not his.

I must criticize you on missing the point that a leader must be selected on policy alone. Your continual whining on these pages about being offended by Trump's Trumpyness is not helping to get him elected. What you find offensive is immaterial to his ability to successfully lead this country. While a beauty pagent or prom queen may be selected on the basis of poise, grace, character or charm, the president of the United States must be selected on policy and leadership ability only. A lack of poise, grace and charm are probably presidential virtues since a gruff character will undoubtedly gain more respect on the international stage. My own father worked as a lawyer with a lot of politicians and was asked by Nixon to head the IRS. My dad refused due to Nixon's requirements, that it be used to punish his enemies list. My father's powerful brother in law in his second marriage gave an interview to Vanity Fair in which he ripped my dad apart. But my father's colleagues all laughed at the interview because my dad didn't show that it affected him. My father was an alpha male, and he knew the game he was in. He would have felt emasculated if I went around saying oh my poor dad. He didn't want his daughter to do anything but laugh at the awfulness of people in power - the last thing he wanted was for me to spend my life in a rage for his sake. It speaks well for you that you don't belong in the world of politics but I also don't trust your judgement as to what this country needs. I’m glad to be part of the team willing to speak up and put our real name on our opinions. Maybe in SB we need the RNC to pass out “DEFEAT HARRIS/WALZ” yard signs and bumper stickers. As a big fan of Dr. Ben Carson during the primary for the 2016 election, I was anti Trump. Voting against crooked, evil Hillary was clearly not a choice, so Trump got my vote. Trump’s bombastic NYC Billionaire demeanor is his problem, and the people he chose to advise in office him were not always wise or faithful. Having said that, most of Trumps policies have been good for all Americans. Promoting Warp Speed Covid vax was not one of his good ideas, in my opinion.

Turning the keys to the country over to Harris Walz would very likely be the death knell for the “democracy” they claim to promote. The deep state is who they represent, as well. They seem determined to quash the Constitution, using fear of viruses and climate change as their weapons.

Trump needs a Republican Senate to enact something stronger than presidential policy, so I hope many of you come and support Steve Garvey. Maybe we could find some

Hi Lou, thanks for a great article. I know that Trump's personality is tough for some people, but I just take him at face value. Like all of us, we are complex and complicated. Trump is an interesting character. He doesn't come across smooth or publicly palatable sometimes because, well, it's not his strong suit. What he is strong at, though, it getting right to the point, and ferreting out bullshit. He has no filter, and I think that's what bugs people the most. To me, however, a 'filter' or 'being polite' in many ways is tantamount to lying. If you can't tell me to the face how you really feel about me, why kiss my ass with false platitudes? He also is not interested in wasting time, and for a guy his age, he has an amazing amount of time and energy, so he can get done in a day multiples of what someone else would accomplish. His interests are wide and varied, and he genuinely cares for this country and its people. Does he need to be saccharine sweet to be effective? Nope. As a former military officer I was blessed to find out what leadership looks like, and sometimes it AIN'T pretty. But I don't want the pretty, sweet guy leading me to battle. I want the tough S.O.B. who doesn't take no for an answer and is not afraid to go first. That's Trump. Love him or hate him, he and his cronies might actually just clean this swamp of corruption, if given enough time. Hopefully he partners with some younger folks (Vance, Gabbard, DeSantis, etc) who can follow in his footsteps once he gets the ball rolling. It won't be quick. It might be ugly. I would be the first to admit Trump is a flawed candidate. Many needless, unforced errors. For this, I can certainly move past and give my support. If for NO other reason, people need to vote with their wallets!

The presidential election is one thing, but what about our state government and the pending insolvency? We are in deep trouble and all politics needs to be local.

This election cycle should be very simple;

War vs peace, prosperity vs bankruptcy, crime vs safety and crazy vs sanity!

And now with JFK Jr onboard, health vs sickness… Infiltration at the highest levels of government, media, science, HEALTH, military CoC, …..MonkeyPox, another Chinese special delivery? 'Quarantine' is when you restrict the movement of sick people. 'Tyranny' is when you restrict the movement of healthy people. At what point should this be reclassified as murder? Was this ever about the HEALTH and well-being of people? Was this ever about the virus?

Or, was this ALWAYS ABOUT THE ELECTION?

More attention needs to be paid to AG Kamala Harris's official acts to sabotage two government pension reform ballot measures. She single-handedly sent both into oblivion, after broad efforts by citizen groups qualified these measures for the state ballot.

This ranks as the most sordid chapter in her undistinguished career as a dutiful Democrat party apparatchik. Where would California's now languishing state finances be today, if voters had been given voice to reign in the now trillion dollar exposure to California unfunded government pension liabilities? Your grandchildren will want answers. Unless they wisely have already moved out of the state.

Harris is all party-pandering froth; there is no substance there, there.

PS: Lou, you know I am long time fan of your intellect and policy articulateness, but I can only reluctantly offer my uptick to your opinion piece. I simply do not share your dark assessment of Trump as a person, but I also wildly cheer your willingness to candidly assess the alternatives presented this election.

There is time later for Ron Desantis, and I admire what he has done in Florida too. But this election calls for brashness and breaking up the suffocating Democrat narrative of the past 12-14 years. That takes ripping off the bandage in one sharp tug for the real national healing to take place. The Deep State needs a trust-buster, dedicated to that one sole task first.

Nothing is hidden any longer in the Deep State's partisan motivations, since they are using every weapon in their taxpayer-funded arsenal to take down Donald J. Trump.

Trump, brash and abrasive, is flushing them out of their spider holes. The nation needed to witness this first, in order to have the backs of Ron Desantis or whomever follows later, who can right the ship of state and return us to the original intentions of our founding. Which is limited government and the rule of law; not Big Government and the partisan weaponization of micromanaging petty statutes.

Nothing wrong with bi-partisan sharing. Democrats are long on vision; we are long on common sense and fiscal probity. Could be a winning, mutually respectful duo.

Introduction of government employees unions in 1962 created a sub-group of US voters who vote only existentially, and not ideologically. 23 million of them today, created an alien body politic when they now show up 99% on the Democrat side of the ticket.

Their buzz word alarm about this current unsustainable shift in the body politic is to rail against "Project 2025", which Democrats view as a death knell for government employee unions.

Yet if we do not reign in this new unelected fourth branch of our government which has reached critical mass today, we will destroy the entire experiment in governance exceptionalism called the United States of America and its US Constitution.

I am very much with very clear-headed Dr Ben Carson on this issue - we are only one or two election cycles away from total loss of our nation. Looking to bring back balance in our government operations, not defeat or scorched earth. But we must eliminate government employee unions, as presently constituted.

Let the howls begin.

BTW, recently learned this has also a difference between the Marines and the Army during WWII. Marines liked to move in fast, early casualties be damned, because an effective lightening strike could shorten the war and reduce over all casualties.

Army under Gen McArthur liked to move very slow and steady, with more protection of personnel in individual actions but that would also prolong the over all numbers of battles for similar net effect. (per Great Courses - WWII in the Pacific)

Trump is the Marines; Desantis is the Army per this example.

I read this "DEFINING" article by Lou Segal Titled "Vote Trump" and I agree

with Mr. Segal and I quote "Others who think as I do might wonder why I see Harris as such a mortal threat to this country. The answer is in her own words and her record as Senator and Attorney General in California. She has supported decriminalizing illegal immigration, giving taxpayer funded health insurance to illegal immigrants, eliminating health insurance on the job for 170 million Americans, banning gas cars, confiscating firearms, imposing price controls on food and other consumer goods..."

As Mr. Segal has stated Harris is a "Mortal Threat" to the US but NOT WHAT IS STATED ABOVE.

Those who are responsible for the Current War in Ukraine, Biden/Harris are partly responsible, has placed the US into Nuclear Exchange Possibilty with Russia, that has occurred only once before with President Kennedy who quickly and secretly de-escalated with Russia as you can all read

"To the Brink: JFK and the Cuban Missile Crisis" at this weblink >>> https://tinyurl.com/444n9khh

During our work, with teams of engineers, in 1980s, on the Ohio Class Submarine, I have walked missle aisle hundreds of times on largest US Submarines the SSBN 726 (Ohio) SSBN 727 (Michigan) and SSBN 728 (Florida) at Submarine Base Bangor. This Nuclear Submarine is the most formidable weapon that can destroy an entire Country within minutes and Russia has comparble submarines in response.

Anyone that places the US into a uncessary "Nuclear Posture" against Russia, I am VOTING AGAINST.

President Trump and Kennedy have come together on three MAJOR Issues one is to immediately END THE PROXY WAR USING UKRAINE AGAINST RUSSIA and the tragic killing of hundreds of thousand of young Ukraine and Russian Boys many families who I have contact with.

I have lived with Russians for 25 years and I think I may know a thing or two about Russia as well as

in the past tracking Russian Fleet Military ships and submarines in the Pacific.

Russia does not BULLSHIT like most Americans and they will execute a Nuclear Exchange and practice same on thier Submarines in their Military Naval Operations.

Therefore, like Mr.Segal, I will be voting for Trump AND Kennedy for the "SAFETY OF AMERICA."

Howard Walther, member of a Miltary Family

PS - Kennedy is going to provide some very needed advice and direction for Trump who better listen.

Good one HW…people need to listen to the words out of Putin’s mouth, rather than the narrative garbage tale fed to us by the Legacy Media (same media that have told us that Trump is a Russian agent, Trump is Hitler, etc. + Putin wants to take over the world — all nonsense). Thank you for this great article. Kamala Harris is a lobotomized vapid shell of a human being. She's manipulative, criminal and dumber than a door knob on policy. Matter of fact, my door knob is more utilitarian than Harris. So yes! It behooves everyone in this country of voting age to vote for TRUMP. Either that or you lose your country to the parasitic globalists.

Lou makes some very good points, but he's exaggerating about Trump being an extremely flawed human being. Who isn't a flawed human being? That sounds like some stupid snowflake rhetoric. And if he's going to mention Trump's flawed character, he might as well talk about Biden and every other damn president's flawed character. Trump has literally given away his own money to help the less fortunate pay off hardship mortgages. Biden gives away everyone else's money (taxpayers) to help pay off student debt. Trump has never been a career politician, but he has been an extremely effective businessman who developed and shaped New York and its infrastructure, creating thousands of jobs. He was extremely popular and well liked by just about everyone before he became president. So while I agree that we must do everything to prevent Kamabla from winning the election, Lou's remarks about Trump are purely subjective. You can't argue with the fact that Trump is a natural born leader.

Lou, I appreciate your point of view.

“Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me; fool me three times, shame on both of us.”

Do you believe the media is truthful?

Do you believe the Democrat administration has been truthful or transparent?

Why would anyone believe the media now when they report that Kamala is neck & neck with Trump? Because they’ve always been honest and fair?

How does a person go from getting zero delegates in her presidential run, to being the worst polling vp in American history to now all of a sudden tied with a guy who got 78 million votes.

How does a person who has to photoshop an audience into her pictures, who needs music artists and Hollywood actors to attract the few people to her rallies, who has to pay children to sit and listen to her school talks, stand against someone who with no celebrities attracts tens of thousands of people at every one of his rallies.

Do you really think the media polls are accurate?

Not for a minute.

Notice how the media doesnt talk about the toxic work environment under Harris and how many people voluntarily quit Verse Trump who had to fire incompetent people.

Notice how Biden and Kamala call the individual voter names and denigrate young voters.

Notice how Trump only attacks politicians and the corrupt who wrongly accuse him.

Trump has never attacked a voter. Biden and Harris do.

So who’s the meanie?

My left neighbors are voting Trump.

Just like you they finally see the hypocrisy of the Democrat party and now know the party was hijacked years ago.

Good for you Lou. Understood. Despite how people feel about Trump the man, that’s not what we’re voting for. We know what Trump stands for and what he accomplished despite the left trying to rewrite history that was only four years ago. We’re barely hanging on to a country under Biden. We can certainly do much better for four years under Trump. For those who don’t like him, four years will be over in no time. You will end up paying less for gas, stopping the illegal invasion, food costs will go down and we may be able to breathe a little easier with hopefully not entering WWIII. Harris will destroy us.

Well written article and it's good to see another fence sitter openly express support for Trump. This is our one & only chance of saving Our Country from falling into communism. For those that haven't figured it out yet, while Trump is just a man with drawbacks, he was forced to play rope-a-dope with these Clowns for the past eight years in order to stay alive. He had to play the game as he marched us through this Silent War. Could you imagine Trump being Mr. Acute Businessman from Day1, when he was sworn into office. They would have killed him long before their latest attempt in PA.

Again, thanks for being outspoken for Trump. And, remember, for each citizen that we can convert from being a Harris-Walz supporter into a Trump voter is a 2-for-1 win…they lose 1 plus we win 1. Keep up the good fight. Be loud! Be proud!
