Problem with any Proposition is the money may not go where it was intended and more likely to some liberal cause instead. Money the government receives seems to go where they want it, regardless of intentions. I agree, NO on any proposition involving spending.
Very nice job, Andy, of using actual data to support how bizarre things have become in a once great county and state. The Democrats needlessly shutting down private businesses during COVID remains, and will continue to be, a disaster as the funds supplied by the feds was given to the office holders who spent it increasing public employees. Once public employees are hired, they are difficult to "un-hire" which will only get worse as the federal money partially supporting them runs out. For contrast, see Florida or Texas who did not shut down during COVID.
Thank you Andy for sharing your views. It seems not that long ago we would read your editorials, Sunday mornings in the once great, Santa Barbara Newspress. Times have changed. As for your voting recommendations, I’m on board and agree whole heartedly.
This is perhaps the most consequential election in certainly my lifetime. The thought of a Harris administration is so depressing and toxic, I try not to think about it. Supporters of the Vice President fail to mention a single achievement she has made since in office. All they know is their hatred of Trump. How dysfunctional.
The California Senate race has frustrated many including me. Steve Garvey in my opinion, has run a terrible campaign and clearly we will be stuck with known liar and perjurer, Adam Schiff for decades. Very disappointing how this campaign unfolded and seemingly lack of communication with our State Republican Party. Garvey’s political decision to distance himself from Trump and MAGA is in my estimation, resulted in political malfeasance. It would not surprise anyone that Garvey will lose by 30 or more percent.
Oh well, time will tell. It’s time to stand up and be counted. Hopefully we can turn the tide and avoid pending bankruptcy in our once golden state.
Blame self-promoting Jessica Patterson and the CAGOP for Garvey. SBGOP / SBRCC had rightly backed highly qualified, prepared attorney candidate Eric Early who has name recognition, 2M FB followers, proven skill sets. However, anyone without celebrity isn’t worthy of Jessica’s CAGOP support.
Next up is newcomer, legal immigrant Steve Hilton, who is energetic and aspires to be CA Governor. Since we MAY be stuck with an anchor baby born to, and acculturated by, two ‘professional class foreigners’ as our next POTUS, why not back more new citizens to control US at all levels of government? Both political parties are not thinking two steps ahead. When picking candidates like Harris or Hilton is either political party focused on citizens who need leaders acculturated as Americans? Media Networks have again successfully gaslighted us.
Ann Coulter stated we need to consider a US Constitutional amendment that eligibility for federal office be amended to require federal candidates be third generation American. Maybe California needs a similar CA Constitutional amendment. We’ve had Arnold Schwarzenegger and now Steve Hilton is on the horizon.
Steve Hilton! THE smartest, most sensible, most American of them all! I'd boost him all the way. Maybe a long shot going up against gruesom Newsom, but just remember this:
"There was never a horse that couldn’t be rode, never a cowboy who couldn’t be throwed."
Money has not solved school or social problems. We each must spread the word consistently to VOTE NO on all bonds. No more of our money. There’s too much waste; administrations have grown too large! Your graph, Andy, shows what’s wrong with schools!
Dozens of less formally educated voters have contacted me totally confused, asking me how to vote on statewide ballot propositions and local measures. My response: VOTE NO on everything EXCEPT Propositions 34 and 36.
A shout out to all — and to Andy —- for reminding South County Santa Barbara Voters: ‘NO on P’! SNCC’s Measure P bond of $198M results in an additional $400,000,000 bond indebtedness to taxable properties until 2060-61. Keep talking. Pass out ‘NO on P’ business cards. Email and text others. www.NoP4SBCC.com
Thank you, Andy. Agree. Especially about reducing the number of school administrators. But if that miraculously happens, what other employment could these people possibly get? For example, if a young woman applies for a job as school teacher and she's asked what she would do with a twelve year old boy with too much energy and she says “I would invite him to my home after school and see to it he gets the proper exercise giving me a massage” - it seems, given the number of female teachers having affairs with their young male students - she would automatically be hired by the school system. If that same woman gave the exact same response while applying for a job at a company, she'd get raised eyebrows and be handcuffed by police on exiting the office building.
That’s a really startling graph, by the way. How do we suppose all those unneeded school administrators, principals and teachers are spending their days? Requiring each other to fill out forms and quotas?
Thank you for your very informative guide. The graph showing school hirings over the last two decades is shocking but, no doubt, shockingly, is representative of most school systems in America. I would add Measure P to your list of "No's".
Despite the camouflage of deceptive marketing by SBCC, Measure P is not just the $198,000,000 value of the Bond. The hit on taxpayers into the 2060's is also the interest payable by taxpayers. The real total of added taxes is $440,000,000. Also, the tax rate in money will not remain the same, because of the greater assessed value of property since the last, still unpaid for, bond was passed.
See the very recent Op-ed in "Newsmakers" by Marsha Croninger, the longest serving SBCC Trustee, who voted against Measure P. She blows the lid off the years of mismanagement and wasted money in SBCC over many years in explaining why she opposed Measure P in the Board of Trustees' vote to approve its launch, that was approved by five of the seven trustees.
Thank you for the article, Andy. I have become so jaded with the propositions on the ballots over the years that I vote no on all of them usually. Good to hear about props 34 and 36.
It's more like the status quo votes itself in through electoral fraud. Then they pocket the taxes they collect or spend the rest on useless (pet) projects.
If it was on the ballot, I would vote for no taxes on wages/salaries and a flat tax on income above a stipulated earning for a family. Then supplement that with consumption based tax (i.e sales tax). If you consume you pay it and it would be fair for all.
Right now the tax burden is on those that are already paying hefty taxes and are earning wages, not on those who get govt welfare and simply consume.
I don't really have a least favorite state. I loved Austin TX 30 years ago -but that was probably more like CA than TX then. I just think any state having a super majority- CA blue or the South/Midwest being so red makes all of those places out of balance. Except for crazies like Boebert Colorado seems like a decent balance of a liberal main city and conservatives in rural areas both keeping each other in check.

Hilton has been a US citizen since 2021. So less of an American than lots.

"Invitees" - stinking law-breakers. By now you've probably heard about our new national anthem - "Jose can you see . . '
Appreciate the guidance, Andy, many thanks.

Just my 2 cents 😊
Red or Blue super-majority's are a big problem for everyone.
