Thank you, Mark, for a terrific column. The real division isn't between Democrats and Republicans, it's between people who are intelligent enough to know they can no longer trust anything the media tells them about Trump and those who, for whatever psychological defect, still believe the Orange Man Bad garbage the media depends on now to get clicks.
I'm neither a Democrat or Republican at this point. I'm just a person who's tired of DEI, open borders, billions of dollars being given to pointless wars and illegals while none is available for American disaster victims, Climate Change tax raises, censorship in the name of Democracy, Drag Queen Story Hour ... to name but a few things. And if I have to hear one more person say the biggest problem we face is Trump because he's a convicted rapist, felon, liar, bad businessman, Hitler, I seriously will start screaming, or the equivalent: writing ALL IN CAPS!!!!!
Thanks Polly, for your kind words and observations.
Ideology is still relevant, but in presidential politics it’s a red herring; nothing more than a pretext for keeping us fighting each other, rather than getting together and fighting our common enemy: a government that has now become so completely, absolutely, and thoroughly corrupt that it will actually try to remove an opposition candidate from the ballot. That failing, they’ll try to throw him in jail or try to bankrupt him.
Applying a meta analysis to that point, one can see quite clearly why politicians (from either party) would rather you focus on hating your neighbor because of his skin color than on the fact that after 37 years in Congress Nancy Pelosi has a net worth of $240 million.
If you enjoyed the article, read the unabridged version on my Substack:
Thank you, Mark - I look forward to reading your Substack and enjoyed reading Nirvana Fallacy. Although you give a lot more core credibility to artists than they have :-) Years ago, Bianca Jagger told Mick's fans that he was anything but a rebel, he loved money and went to the London School of Economics. Julie Burchill, the naughty Brit rock critic came away from her punk years laughing at how the politics in even the most acidic punk songs seldom matched their desire to get blown and get rich. I don't look to artists for political truth. I listen to the words they were hit with by the Divine Force, I don't pay attention to who God picked to deliver the music.
No doubt politicians are in it for the money, such as the likes of Nancy Pelosi. The insanity of all this is the ongoing reelection of these fraudsters to continue robbing the taxpayer.
The only solution to TOTALLY removing politics, at least at the local city level, is to form City Governments operating basically as maintenance operations with absolutely no excess spending for other politically biased "causes." These operational entities, completely VOID of politics, have to be a form of an industry WITHOUT any political affiliation ... PERIOD. As long as politics is involved with maintenance of a city ... the taxpayer is going to be SCREWED OVER. The political hacks can form charities to fund their activities ... PERIOD. First thing done when operating industry-style is to remove the FAT of nonperforming employees. Note: Use of CAPS approved by Polly (I think <g>).
CAPS are a good choice. I think writing in CAPS defines approaching insanity. If we could input audio, then screams would be great, too! Or attach pictures, even better. When I saw a NYT headline "Trump Stumbles Through Speech," insinuating no difference between Trump and Biden, I wanted to break something. The Dem media is operating on insanity trying to support a dead Harris campaign and making us all nuts listening to their stupid propaganda.
Polly, lock your CAPS key. You point out that intelligent people know they can no longer trust anything the media tells them about trump. Then you go on to say you’re tired of DEI, open borders, climate change, drag queens story hours, disaster victims unable to obtain relief funds, etc. Am I wrong to assume you hear about these things from the untrustworthy media, or do you have a source with indisputable evidence?
By the way, thank you for reminding us of trump’s, traits, and character.
Julia, a week ago you were asking what DEI is …. so I don't think you are getting much reality from the media you trust. I'm not angry at you. You are too naive to be angry at. BUT I AM ANGRY AT THE MEDIA FOR TURNING THEMSELVES INTO PROPAGANDA MACHINES. Good for you, though, for coming here.
The media indeed covers DEI, open borders, climate change, drag queen story hours, etc.
In answer to Julia’s question, no, we shouldn’t believe the spin they put on those topics - any more than we should believe the spin they put on Trump.

I read this article by Mark Rock titled "War Crimes and Misdemeanors"
that should be titled "Headed Towards Nuclear Destruction" and I quote
"Nowhere is this more apparent than with the Democrats’ newfound love for Dick Cheney. George W. Bush’s two-term Vice President’s greatest legacy consists of having been the primary architect of interminable, pointless foreign adventures in which ghastly numbers of people were killed. As part of this gruesome quest, Cheney portrayed Saddam Hussein as a self-proclaimed nuclear-armed existential threat to the United States, in order to justify invading Iraq and toppling its government. By conservative estimates, the subsequent Iraq war and occupation resulted in 4,492 American deaths, 200,000 Iraqi civilian deaths, and cost American taxpayers 728 billon dollars (these figures do not include the wider wars in Afghanistan and Syria, the cost of which well exceeds one trillion dollars, and doesn’t include the countless additional American and civilian deaths from these conflicts)."
My first Calling as an Engineer was working for the DOD on the Ohio Class Submarine starting in 1982.
This is still the deadliest Military Platform as shown here >>>
"Teton County, Wyoming, is the richest county in the United States: its per capita income is $194,485, while Manhattan is a distant second at $148,002. But it is also the county with the nation’s highest level of income inequality."
Very well written, and a very evenhanded look at what is happening in today’s world. Unfortunately, as you point out in the article, people are unable to look at things rationally anymore. As far as politics are concerned. From my perspective, I see it as the so-called left will no longer “play in the sandbox“ with us conservatives. Just like you see in commercials and propaganda the saying “kids have to be taught to hate“ or no one is born hating someone I think that the school systems top to bottom are teaching our children to hate based on ones political affiliation. It is truly alarming and very effective as to our undoing as a country. I often wonder when true seekers of peace will see through this façade and relearn to love one another and our country. I do believe the United States is truly the last Bastian of freedom and this push towards a one world government will lead to disaster for the peoples of the world freedom
You know what I wanna see? I want see the whistle blower who is going to blow the lid off where and how the cash disbursements to the supportive members of Congress and the Senate happen after we send a bunch of money to places like Ukraine and Lebanon. You don't think AF1 and 2 are inspected by Customs when they return from an overseas trip, do you? Does it happen in the tunnels under DC? Do they actually hand it out in the Congressional buildings? Comet PingPong? Or is it deposited into overseas accounts that they already have? Remember the person who took Zelensky the list of congress people who supported that particular cash gift? Why did he need a list? Was he going to send out thank you letters?
Customs inspections and tunnels under DC are not needed when you have an insular, uniparty government that have all agreed on the way that the game is played. We already have a whistleblower. His name is Donald J. Trump.
What a lucid summation of the state of the nation. It serves the Deep State that the 50-50 divide keeps the citizens from uniting to demand a truly representative government. The Media delivers Fear Porn and the schools indoctrinate Hate, all while the Military Industrial Complex pursues the depopulation goal.
Has the irrelevant, ignoramus Dick Cheney taken up drinking again, or has he simply just lost his mind? It would seem so, given his support for Kamala Harris for President. Ironic how a few years ago the left typically portrayed Cheney as a murderer and war criminal. What changed? To top it off his loser Daughter, Liz Cheney, after her loathsome performance in the J6 hearings, also has thrown in for Harris. Clearly, the disgraced former Wyoming congresswoman is trying to remain in the news. Too bad for her and for her “has been” Father that few are listening.
As for Bill Maher, he too is trying to remain relevant. Like Chaney Sr., he also enjoys popping a cork. Yes, Mayer can often be seen on his podcast boozing it up and partaking with Mary Jane while pontificating, or more accurately, babbling about some lefty cause. Who cares what Mayer thinks? BTW, who cares what fellow moron, Howard Stern babbles as well.
Both Maher and Stern, middle aged, angry men trying to remain hip to their younger audience, all while the audience have long since moved on. Yes, young viewers today are typically much more woke and often espouse their hatred for Israel. Something undoubtedly hits close to home for Mayer and Stern.
The Jeannie is out of the bottle and nether “comedian” knows quite how to put it back. Even Maher is taken aback how screwed up and dysfunctional the left has become…what a surprise!
The problem with Cheney: He's now recognized as a turncoat by both the Dems and Rep brands. This makes Cheney insignificant to either party, IMO. In comparison, Harris far outranks any of Cheney's propaganda. The Dems aren't voting for Cheney, the most insignificant one. Does Harris actually mention Cheney's name? If she does, who then cares? Harris has placed such an enormous target on her back by her small talk, nonsensical word salad with the lousiest four years of performance that is sinking her faster than quicksand. I'm predicting she will soon implode by completely understanding she's going to be a loser. She can't help making herself appear as someone removing incoming water from a sinking boat using a plastic straw. She's doomed and smart enough to know it. She will go into permanent hiding one of these days soon. I doubt if she makes it to the election. She's too proud to display herself as a nobody which she's starting to realize. Her smile isn't working anymore, not even in a humorous way. The BS coming out of her mouth really stinks, the sound of her to the ear is now nauseating and she looks like a pathetic nobody. How much longer can the public take on all her nonsense in an attempt to be a President, really? I say not for long.
Appreciate this thoughtful article. Mahar is correct that we do need to put our love for each other first if we are going to save this country as it transitions from bully global empire to regular country. And perhaps he doesn't even realize that debating with slurs and epithets is not the best way to show the love. I think it is too an ingrained a habit for him at this point. But we can use it as inspiration to work to do less of that ourselves.
Trump is hated by the establishment elites because he is able to use his fame to overcome their cancelling in their media. They can't sideline him like they to Howard Dean. That means they don't fully control him. But neither do we. And the values he is operating on are not very reliable.
The death toll from the 2nd war on Iraq is more realistically estimated to be in the millions. This was after years of crippling sanctions and US destruction of their civilian water infrastructure than Democrat Madeline "the price is worth it" Albright admitted cost the lives of half a million children. War and war funding is a bipartisan adventure in the US. But before you think the party war criminal Cheney flees is better than the one he left, you need to look a little closer at Trump's "bold" legacy in the Middle East. Trump vaporized Gen. Qasem Soleimani en route to peace talks. That is a straight up war crime and gangster as heck. Trump also allowed his extremist son in law, Jared Kushner, to broker normalize relations with several Arab countries with no recognition of any rights to the Palestinians who have no realization of many of the most basic human rights in the open air prison called Gaza or the heavily restricted West Bank. Similar efforts to get Saudi Arabia to normalize with Israel were what led many Palestinian and their supporters to feel their chance at achieving either a state or equal rights in a combined state were being closed off. Trump also moved the embassy to Jerusalem. This past Oct. 7, Trump visited the grave of Jewish supremecist Rabbi Schneerson, the one who inspired the Brooklyn doctor who carried out the Hebron massacre in a Mosque as Palestinian Muslims were praying. The work of Israel Shahak called "Jewish fundamentalism in Israel" to understand more about how extremist this current of Orthodox Judaism is.
The people who got the US into war in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Sudan and Yemen, the Neocons, have been pushing for war on Iran for decades. Trump is claiming that Iran is trying to have him assassinated and that if he is killed, Iran should be destroyed. J D Vance said Iran should be "hit hard" at his very first speech after being tapped as VP candidate. Trump withdrew the US from the Iran nuclear deal and also walked away from the INF treaty. You need to watch these people and what they say and do. Trump might claim he is against foreign interventions, but he does not demonstrate a respect for international law or basic morality and has undermined nuclear arms control. I am afraid the Neocons control both parties and both parties are extremely reckless.
Jill Stein has many bad positions and did not stand up consistently for election integrity in the recount of 2016. But she is the most antiwar, and I will be voting for her to send a message that I will not sign on to the war machine. We nearly averted nuclear war two weeks ago when Biden was going to give long range missiles to prop up the hopeless Ukraine war effort. If Israel is allowed to drag the US into war with Iran, it could also trigger nuclear war. This is no joke. Please learn more about these interests pushing for war and do what you can to talk to congressmen and others about the need to get us back on a nuclear arms control footing.
I certainly understand where you are coming from on the nuclear war issue; none of us want that but I am concerned about putting all my eggs in one basket, i.e. Jill Stein on one issue. I had never heard of her before this election but looking up certain things now on her does not make me feel good about what might happen if she were put in power as the president. I am hoping that Trump would like to go down in the history books as the president that never had a war during his term and am hopeful that he will carry it his promises on the economy and the border.
Trump is playing it like a shrewd politician when he says Iran is trying to assassinate him. He's not going to blame the people he knows full well are behind it - the Dems! Trump and Vance are talking tough, because he knows that's what these leaders respect. I'm anti-war, too, but I want a tough president so we don't end up in one. If Trump had been in office, the Ukraine fiasco wouldn't have happened. Jill Stein? I admire her peace stance which I believe is real. But I doubt she could enforce peace. Trump can. When I was a little kid we had a bully named Win on our street. None of the parents who tried to reason with him got anywhere. My alpha father walked up to Win, picked him up then turned him upside down so they were looking right at each other. “I don't ever want to do this again, understand?” Win didn't bully anyone on our street again.
Here's the one thing _everybody_ understands . . . - m-u-s-c-l-e -. Talk and 'diplomacy' is BS without a BIG stick behind it and a hard-head like Trump who will use it.
Competition is good. And so is playing by the rules, and good sportsmanship. Being part of the loyal opposition is an American fundamental. But so are safe and secure elections. Zero tolerance is necessary to reach that goal so we can all color within the same lines, when we don’t all get along.
Sometimes we are the bug. Sometimes we are the windshield. Country wisdom
Our political divide is as old as the country itself. It has always been a tug of war between those wanting a strong central government and those who want a limited decentralized government.
Those same dividing lines remain in place still in 2024. Democrats are micromanaging master minds. Republicans say, back off and let us breathe.
Public health response belongs to the states. Each state picked a different path. So no, it is misinformation to claim Trump was Commender in Chief in any war against Covid, Democrat election year politics drove the Covid hoax.
He was Commander In Chief during the non-pandemic and used the industrial strength of many parts of government to produce the Covid shots, which are still harming people and will harm people for the foreseeable future.
Trump never mandated nor huckstered the clot shot. They came to market only after the 2020 election. The Covid clot shot and attendent horrors are all on Team Biden from day one. Go back and review the timelines and the horrific Covid overkill Biden did try to force on us.
Warp speed process already in the works well before covid was even invented. Democrats politically exploited covid and used it to hang Trump. They were the ones screaming ..DO SOMETHING. Now they scream, you did it all wrong. Nope, those twisted Democrats lies do not fly. Be very wary when Democrats exploit a “pandemic” in election years.
Give me a break. Trump made those diabolical shots happen. You’d be screaming bloody murder all day all night if Kamala had put them on the market.
The hypocrisy of the conservatives is as sickening as ever. You want to vote for Mr Operation Warp Speeda take the shot at the polling station out in the open so we can see how much of a loyalist you are. Lol
I don’t believe Dick Cheney abdicated Republican loyalty. I hope he is a true Republican, in the sense that he would vote country over party. By the way, I am not a Dick Cheney fan, but I hold Liz Cheney in high regard.
At the end of the day, the term "the enemy of your enemy isn't always your friend" is missed by many, if not most. Also, no matter how much closer most of us get to becoming homeless-or no matter how much worse the national debt becomes--90+% of the people will heed to the candidate whichever of the two major parties instructs them. Despite the Savior image of Trump rescuing us from the abyss of immorality, or the idea that voting for Harris will topple the White Patriarchy, all signs point to the ever-worsening of our economy, and the continued hatred building on both sides. In other words, business as usual.

Trump so often proves he plays the long game, several moves down the board.
Here's the one thing _everybody_ understands . . . - m-u-s-c-l-e -. Talk and 'diplomacy' is BS without a BIG stick behind it and a hard-head like Trump who will use it.
No Aimee, we can’t all get along. Nor should we.
Trump didn’t start any new wars? Are you sure about that? He was Commander-In-Chief for America’s response to World War Covid.
Lol
:)
I don’t believe Dick Cheney abdicated Republican loyalty. I hope he is a true Republican, in the sense that he would vote country over party. By the way, I am not a Dick Cheney fan, but I hold Liz Cheney in high regard.
Thank you for reading and for your comment.
Cheney is voting for “country over party”?
If a country is defined in part by its citizens, then Dick Cheney has left us with less of a country - 4,492 less, to be precise.
The struggle is not right vs left anymore. It’s Establishment vs The People. And we will get a better outcome when everyone realizes this
At the end of the day, the term "the enemy of your enemy isn't always your friend" is missed by many, if not most.
Flushing out neo-cons is good for the Republican cause. Let Democrats continue being the party of endless wars. They were always creepy.
Almost unintelligible!
